Would be great to see him stay... Wright, Sampson, and then Keith or Seldon... WOW--- We get our act together on the Oline and grab some experienced OL in the portal and our running game could be very special for the next 2-3 years and beyond...I’m a big fan of Wright, but every season VN pumps up guys to declare early yet few end up doing so. Maybe Wright will break the trend - who knows, but counting him gone already seems premature. JMO
Assuming Bama is recruiting him to play RB, and they currently have 0 RBs committed, I can understand why that'd be an attractive option for Hill. Plus, being from Meridian, MS, Tuscalooser is an easy, short drive up I-20 (90 miles).
Just being in this recruitment is rather impressive. Feels like Bama should have wrapped this one up a while ago.
I think a lot of it is perhaps based in the idea that he already had a foot out the door once before angling for NIL money. Sampson seems to be nipping at his heels for carries, so barring injury, returning doesn't make a ton of sense for Wright.I’m a big fan of Wright, but every season VN pumps up guys to declare early yet few end up doing so. I think if it were wrapped up for Bama then it would be...wrapped up for Bama. IMO odds still say he ends up there, but it's clear we've really given him something to think about. My guess is that not only does he have a great relationship with Coach Mack but he also sees what our offense does for RBs with his multi-dimensional skillset that a stale offense like Bama's with Tommy Rees doesn't. That is, getting RBs the ball in space and even splitting them out and passing them the ball directly.Assuming Bama is recruiting him to play RB, and they currently have 0 RBs committed, I can understand why that'd be an attractive option for Hill. Maybe I'm wrong on this, but wasn't there some talk about Wright entering the portal this past season? If there was any validity in that, I could defiantly see this as the year he wants more $$, whether that is NFL or portal. To me, RB's are the one position that you should get the money when you can. The value of a RB is very short.I think a lot of it is perhaps based in the idea that he already had a foot out the door once before angling for NIL money. He's projecting toward a 1000 yd season with a demonstrated ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, and near elite speed. He has ideal NFL size at 5-11, 210 lbs. I'm just not sure there is a lot of reason for him to come back.
Frankly, even if he doesn't feel like he's ready for the NFL, he can likely make a pretty penny on the open market for a high-level P5 team willing to shell out for a proven SEC-caliber RB. Is Tennessee willing to get into a bidding war for him, or do they like what they have in Sampson, Seldon, Keith, Bishop, and Peyton Lewis? Jabari Small also has another year of eligibility if he chooses to use it.
It just feels like there is a lot working against the idea of Wright returning. Not impossible, but not likely either, IMO.
Yeah, I alluded to it in my first sentence. There a several avenues to him getting paid next year. Tennessee is one of them, but are they the most lucrative option for Wright? That remains to be seen. Something tells me they won't be because of the options they have behind him.Maybe I'm wrong on this, but wasn't there some talk about Wright entering the portal this past season? Go Vols!!
apologies, I read through that and didn't comprehend it very well.Yeah, I alluded to it in my first sentence. There a several avenues to him getting paid next year. Except for a few, relatively special running backs, you’re either DRAFTABLE or you’re not. If you’re the former, you’re not going to increase your marketability enough to justify the risk of injury with another year imo.I’m a big fan of Wright, but every season VN pumps up guys to declare early yet few end up doing so. NFL is so picky with age at RB, with Small being a senior, does he really have a choice to declare if he wants to play in the nfl? But to answer your question I feel like he has a solid shot of being a 6th or 7th rounder or definitely making it through training camp of being on a roster. And I think Wright could be a day 2 guy if he stays healthyYou think we have two RBs drafted?
Why wouldn't he? He's not thought to be a draft candidate. Unless he just wants to move on with life, but he'd have a great opportunity to get the bulk of the carries next year.
