'24 MS RB Daniel Hill

NFL is so picky with age at RB, with Small being a senior, does he really have a choice to declare if he wants to play in the nfl? But to answer your question I feel like he has a solid shot of being a 6th or 7th rounder or definitely making it through training camp of being on a roster. And I think Wright could be a day 2 guy if he stays healthy
I don't think he's on anybody's board, to be honest, but maybe I'm wrong. RB is such a low value position and he's not even the starter this year.

Starter doesnt mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of things since we spell the rb so much, it’s more based on carries that teams go by. I feel like he could sneak on some teams draft boards by the end of the season

I think there's a decent possibility he comes back probably decent nil . Get paid and more education for the real world. He's a good college running back and I would be happy he stayed.

Why wouldn't he? He's not thought to be a draft candidate. Unless he just wants to move on with life, but he'd have a great opportunity to get the bulk of the carries next year.
Sampson will surpass Small next year for carries if he does come back, but he would definitely still be part of the 1-2, combo....if Wright does indeed enter the draft. If he continues at the current pace he's on, he'll be a day 2 pick most likely.

I agree that RB is devalued by the NFL, but that only really matters in terms of early round draft capital and guys seeking big-money second contracts. In fact, you could argue that guys like Small have a greater chance of being selected late or signed as free agents and sticking as teams look for passable NFL talent at the position to avoid using higher end draft picks or spending big money in free agency on a position they feel can be filled with day 3 picks and free agents. Arian Foster, for example.

Additionally, being the starter in college is overrated. Roschon Johnson was just taken by the Bears despite being behind Bijan Robinson at Texas his entire career, and is logging major snaps. Donovan Edwards will be drafted out of Michigan despite splitting carries with Blake Corum. Same for Miyan Williams at Ohio State despite splitting carries with Treyveon Henderson. Montrell Johnson at Florida is another.

I didn’t mean to imply that non-starting RBs don’t get drafted, just that his opportunity to move up the board this year (as opposed to last) is reduced due to not starting. Although, to be fair, Small was the starter last year and he ended up with close to the same number of carries as Wright, his backup.

Assuming Bama is recruiting him to play RB, and they currently have 0 RBs committed, I can understand why that'd be an attractive option for Hill. Plus, being from Meridian, MS, Tuscalooser is an easy, short drive up I-20 (90 miles).

Just being in this recruitment is rather impressive. Feels like Bama should have wrapped this one up a while ago.
They probably have 0 committed because they took 2 top 5 rbs last year and have 7 on the roster (4 are freshmen).

Everything goes in cycles, I think you are seeing the running back position starting to pick back up again a little in the pro’s. Especially among the more talented backs. It is not the highest position on the board but a strong running back in the pro’s is gonna get his money. GBO

They took Jam Miller, Emmanuel Henderson, and Jahmyr Gibbs the year before that. And Camar Wheaton the year before that. And Jase McClellan and Roydell Williams the year before that. Bama landing stud RBs is like the sun rising in the east. They churn them out of there.

If Small and Wright were to stay, we lose Sampson. If there was any thought they were going to stay I don’t think CJH would be looking at taking a second back in this class.
That's not true. Sampson is getting plenty of attention and opportunity to show his skills without taking extraordinary abuse. As for the 2nd RB, it would not be uncommon to carry 6 RBs.

Chances are the decision becomes Small's as Sampson takes more carries from him.

Concerning Hill specifically, sometimes a guy is a take simply because the staff likes him that well. I strongly suspect they aren't just pursuing a 2nd RB but are specifically interested in this RB.

It took Sampson a bit to get noticed last year. If Seldon gets a look, he may bust one and then that may change the overall look of the RB room next year potentially.....
When will Seldon get to show what he’s has next year don’t want to transfer

As long as “his money” is reasonable. Both Jacobs and Barkley are playing on franchise tags with no long term extension on the horizon.

Taking Gibbs from Georgia Tech and him starting over all their 5 stars is poignant. Kinda like needing Tyler Steen from Vandy to start at LT when they’ve loaded up on 5 star OL since forever.

Daniel Hill is planning to be back in Columbia next weekend for the Florida game.

I still feel confident that if he had committed in August, it would have been to South Carolina. The narrative has shifted some toward Alabama on the surface, but I still feel the Gamecocks are right there for the 4-star RB in Mississippi. Hill is very high on the program and loves his connection with the staff.

South Carolina is expected at Meridian today to check on Hill.

He was at Tennessee last weekend and the Vols are working hard to get back into this. I would still put South Carolina over Tennessee at this time. There is not decision date set yet, and this is a family decision, so this is one that could still have a few twists and turns.
