The investigation, or even the appointment of a special counsel, would have been very difficult to justify without the meeting at Trump Tower on June 9, 2016. It is very clear that Trump Jr., was welcoming whatever assistance he could get from Natalia Veselnitskaya and her Russian cohorts. His e-mails with Rob Goldstone leave no doubts about that. The only thing in doubt, is whether or not anything of value to the Trump campaign was provided. We don't know that and never will... we do know that Trump Jr., lied about who was in attendance at the meeting and what was discussed. We also know that Trump Sr., dictated a narrative aboard Air Force One, that was also not the truth. So, the claims of a "witch hunt" do irk me here. The Trump campaign did seek help from the Russians and then lied about it. The fact that suspicious behavior aroused suspicion... does not fit the definition of a persecution (otherwise known as a witch hunt).

You do realize that Natalia met with Glen Simpson before and after the meeting in Trump tower right? Nothing to see there at all. It’s totally acceptable that she would meet with the head of Fusion GPS more than she met with Trump folks. Just a dinner date. I’m sure they talked about golf and grandkids.

Why does lying matter? Good lord. It reflects a consciousness of wrong-doing. To pretend that being caught in a lie doesn't raise suspicion is just ridiculous. People who want to call this a witch hunt or a hoax but can't acknowledge how Trump's lies fed the investigation are either being disingenuous or just plain stupid.

I’m pretty sure there is testimony by Bruce Ohr that refutes Simpson’s testimony about when those two met. Without looking at the transcript, I believe he said that the common denominator was The Magnitsky Act, more specifically involving Bill Browder and attempts to have him testify about money laundering.

I wouldn't say that. It changed the Trumper narrative from "total exoneration" to "Mueller didn't write the report". I think the new DNI nominee is saying it was Hillaries legal team that wrote it, or some crazy smack.
