Dropping 8 into coverage only works if those 8 defenders know their assignments perfectly. That almost never happens in college b/c dropping 8 means you have back up or situational corners on the field. By definition these players aren’t physically good enough or don’t have a good enough grasp of the defensive concepts to be starters. Teams are literally removing starting caliber defensive players to bring subs on the field and hope they know enough.

Yah. It just never seems to work. I could see where it would do better in the NFL

Beamer excuse prepping so if they lose, he can whine during the post game PC about how many injuries they have on the line.

Reality is most of the guys out have been out for months and/or are PWO types. The Mercer transfer wasn't even playing and is a PWO - but woah is us. The only new name is Jakai Moore but as Beamer said, he's expected to play.

This is Beamer being dramatic because he knows whats coming.

Beamer said Tuesday he hoped he could play but Moore was downgraded to Questionable on Thursday.

Rattler is running for his life back there, but still completing +70% of his passes.

How to pressure and contain is probably the hardest to develop aspect of pass rushing, and we use a lot of physically talented but young defensive linemen. If Vegas is wrong on this game, that is where disaster for UT would happen.

It's also where home field crowd noise could ironically work against us. If young pass rushers get amped up by the noise, that will make disciplined lane integrity more difficult.

This is gonna be an "out" game. I just don't know if it'll be a shootout or a blowout.
