Little Rock sports radio is reporting that Mustain has had an in-home visit w/ Weiss from ND. He has also had an in-home visit from Tennessee but is not interested. Mitch is all but commited to ND...possibly been in the ND corner all year but committed to Arkansas to prevent UA fans from coming to all his high school games to boo him (yes, arkansas fans are that petty). The radio show further reports that Mustain is refusing an in-home visit from UA and his former coach! We really don't need Mustain (Compton will be fine), but for me personally, I think it's great that he will not be attending UA. Most of these booger-eating fans will be on suiside watch for the next 6 months...and Nutt is stuck w/ a high school coach as his OC!!! That, as Mastercard says it, is priceless!

I wonder what thoughts are going through the Clausen home right now? I wonder if Jimmy feels so confident about going there when Weis courted someone ahead of him....

I know coaches always like stacking the deck but the pecking order for ND just got stretched even further. Does Jimmy look for somewhere he stands a better chance of starting sooner?

It doesn't really matter to me. Seems like Bear Bryant use to take mediocre quarterbacks(excluding Namath and Stabler) and win National Championships with them.

I just think it's funny you referred to their fans as booger-eaters :birgits_giggle:

After doing a little research, ND had claimed they had no interest in Mustain. They already had commitments from 2 4 Star QBS: Rivals #2 dual threat QB and Rivals #6 pro style QB.

Now why after this would they go after Mustain? Were those other two firm? And now where will these others go? With the prospect of Jimmy Clausen coming will they really want to stay in a stacked environment like that?

What or who are they saying is their source? As early as yesterday 12/13/05 Mustain wouldn’t name the schools on his list or detail his reasons for backing out of his commitment to the Razorbacks. His Mom was quoted as saying, “her son was influenced by the then-uncertainty regarding Wittke (ex QB Coach at Arkansas) and the return of assistant David Cutcliffe to Tennessee. Cutcliffe coached both Peyton and Eli Manning.

That interview was scheduled before he jumped ship supposedly so not sure if that is a sign of anything or not.

Drivetime sports is a talk radio show on throughout the state of Arkansas that has the former SDI as a co-host. He lives in Fayettville and has daily contact w/ people within the sports department at UA. This man has stated since Mitch decommited to Arkansas, that the choice was between Arkansas or ND...Tennessee was never really in the mix. When this radio show signed on at 4pm CST, inside word from several sources within UA are Mustain will commit to ND, with Arkansas still a "longshot" and TN not in the picture.
All the local goobers are crying in their moonshine  .
Mitch has personally ruined Christmas for all of these mouth-breathing ogars, which I think is funny as hell. Of all the places I have lived throughout the South, Arkansas fans are the WORST. The sports talk radio waves are filled with these idiots ranting that Mitch is a trader and will be nothing w/o Malzahn (the new OC)...let me get this right Malzahn (a high school coach) would prepare Mustain (or any QB) for the NFL
better than Charlie Weiss. Message to Arkie fan..don't mix moonshine and Prozac!

Don't be so hard on our brothers from Arkansas. Their program has roots that go back to Gen. Neyland. It is to our advantage for the conference to be strong from top to bottom. If Mustang (don't beat a dead horse) didn't come to UT I would prefer he go to Arkansas or any team in the SEC West except Bama.

If Mustain does committ to ND, I think Nutt is going to look pretty bad naming his high school as the O.C. I could see making him an assistant coach like tight ends or wr but the O.C.???

This whole thing seems like a desperate attempt by Nutt to land a recruit who he views as being able to save his job. With their freshman RB and Mustain they would have had a decent offense.

Anyways, I think this spells the end to Nutt. I'm not expecting much from a high school coach named O.C. in his first year, and Nutt has had 2 losing seasons now in a row. My prediction is Nutt is gone after next season if they have another subpar year.

It would seem ironic that the two most senior SEC coaches (at same school), Nutt and Fulmer would be on the hot seat next year. My prediction is that 2006 is the last year for both, despite what they pull out of the hat as far as assistant coaching changes they make. Both have lost their MOJO.

2006 could possibly be the last year for Nutt, however, excluding extreme circumstances it will not be the last year for Fulmer. Fulmer has incredible equity in the University of Tennessee, and he is easily one of the top 5 active coaches in college football (I would put him behind Carroll, Paterno, and Spurrier.) If UT fired the coach with the 2nd highest winning percentage, two conference championships, eight 10 win seasons, oh, and the first National Championship for UT in 47 years, what coach would ever want to sign on and deal with a fan base that ran Fulmer out of town?

Actually, both Stabler and Namath were pre-Wishone. I don't think Alabama went to the bone until the early 70s after they went through a down period in the late 60s.

This not a fire Full Philmer thread, though "what have you done lately i.e. since 1998, Phil", but just pointing out that the deans of their respective SEC divisions have fallen on difficult and career threating times.

]Quarterback Mitch Mustain, the nation's No. 2 senior prospect and an Arkansas commitment, has reopened his recruiting.

Even though the Irish were involved with the 6-foot-2, 198-pounder from Springdale, Ark., the first time around, Lemming said Notre Dame will not pursue Mustain and that the Irish coaches are happy with their commitments from QBs Zach Frazer and Demetrius Jones.

"And from everything I'm hearing, Frazer's and Jones' commitments are firm," Lemming said.

Arkansas recently hired Mustain's high school coach, Gus Malzahn, to be its offensive coordinator.

Guess we're back to square one.

If the Arkansas people are trying to play mindgames with this kid it could really wind up blowing up in their faces. It would be best to just shut up and let the coaches do their job and then let the chips fall wherever.

Brent Hubbs said Cutcliffe was with Mustain Sunday night. Cut is also trying to get Isaiah Williams to come visit in January.

Charlie Wiess said yesterday that he is finished with QB recruiting for the year. He already has commitments from 2 solid prospects and will not sign another QB. That leaves Arky and UT.

I'm laying odds of 3:1 in Arky's favor. MM's mom has a runaway redneck ego that wants to be in charge of her son for the next 50 years of his life. She wants the spotlight.

I completely agree on the ND situation. I'm just hoping the nasty Ark fans start trashing the family name and making Mitch NOT want to go to Arkansas. Who wants to go somewhere that writes some pretty negative news articles and people are already calling you names before you even step foot on campus. God forbid he does go there and messes up. They'll hang the kid.
