Mustain to ND

It's sort of funny watching an 18 year old screw with the minds of people like us that care too much.

Like I have stated in another post, UT plays second fiddle to no one and UT doesn't have to beg anyone to come here!
We will be fine! I do know that ND second string qb Wolke wanted to play football for UT.UT never recruited him.His parents were as big a UT fans as you could find. They had a picture with the dad,son and Fulmer.Hes actually pretty fast and benches around 400.

Mustain's mom has confirmed UT is on the list. One of his selling points? Where he will live.....if it's a choice between Arkansas, Bama, ND, or UT? Hands down....UT. The weather is much better than ND. The scenery is much better in Knoxville and I'm not just referring to the mountains either. It's nice to have a woman smile and she have all her teeth. It's a bonus when the family tree isn't a telephone pole.

his mom does'nt want him to go to AR. she does not want him to be their savior... to much pressure she says...

I too now live in Little Rock, and have to agree with gemlek. Mustain will not be coming to Arkansas. The sports talk announcers have been trashing his decommitment, and his mom since this took place. The talk here reminds me of the talk in Tennessee of when Chris Simms decommited. No matter what, he has included us in his list of schools he is still interested in. I hope the coaches and fans would take this as a serious interest, and welcome a player with Mustain's ability. If he does decide to become a Vol it could change our whole recruiting outlook. Imagine if the younger Jimmy Clausen perused these boards and saw how his brothers were ripped apart, and how recruiting him would be a lost cause. We, as fans, need to embrace these recruits, and let them know we would be proud to have them as players for UT.

Fans of any school want a recruit to WANT to come to their school and WANT to play. I can understand Arkansas fans' displeasure. When the top, or one of, QB in the nation picks your school which is not a top 20 team, you feel proud of that. But after committing and then decommitting, fans will of course feel a little betrayed. The reactions have been extreme of course in his case. Trashing a kid and his family is not the best way to get the kid to change his mind.

We as fans have to realize that these kids are under tremendous pressure, mostly from the obsessive and controlling parents turned managers/agents. Recruiting has turned into a business and has become competitive and sometimes cut-throat. I've said before that no one should take verbals for any value. Until signing day, things can change. Recruits can be 'stolen' easily. Many want to wait and see who offers before committing. Many who are diehard fans of a school and don't get offers there, have to go elsewhere. Take Keith Brooking for the Falcons. I knew him a long time before college. He was the biggest UGA fan out there. But he was told he was too small and slow. So instead he went to GA Tech. He still made his mark at another school and is a Pro Bowl man year in and year out.

A lot of things to consider when thinking about 18 year olds with dreams of playing in the big time.

The latest on Mustain....comments from him:

“Their (Tennessee's) history shows that they know how to win and that they’re going to continue to do that,” the 6-3, 205-pounder said of the Vols. “I think them hiring back Coach Cutcliffe really shows they’re geared up and heading in the right direction.

“I like that about them and I like Coach Cutcliffe. I’ve had a chance to visit with him, and I think he knows what he’s doing, as he’s proved in the past.”

Ultimately, Mustain figures the school he signs with on Feb. 1 will be the one where he fits in best.

“I think the final thing will come down to where I feel the most comfortable – as far as where I’m going to be living, where I’m going to be going to school,” he said. “And then, of course, the football program – relationships with the coaches and everything. I think all of that combined will be the biggest factor.”

He is heading to Alabama or UT.

Not ND where they have 2 of the top QB's already locked up

In an interview with Charli Weiss regarding recruting, a local (Indianapolis) sports talk radio station reported that he said "We are pretty well set at quarterback, what we are aggresively going after in the recruiting area are a couple of big receivers and some help on both the offensive and defensive lines."

This would leave me to believe he either has some sort of commitment from Mustain or he is not interested in Mitch.

Guess we can just hope, wait, and see...

but I think I understand what you meant. Either way, the die is probably already cast as far as Notre Dame.

Heard on ST yesterday, Cut was after a Qb in Texas, but I didn't get to finish listening. Anybody else hear it?

Nope. Matt Staford is in Dallas and considered solid for UGA but he is the #1 in the land so I guess it is not a complete waste of time to visit him. Greg McElroy and Taylor Potts are both from TX and considered solid for Texas Tech, maybe he thinks he can get one of them to defect. Nick Stephens is considered solid for Ole Miss but he had us on his list. I know there are some other 3* QBs in Texas but pretty much all the Top 25 QBs are considered solid commits at this point. Now I am very curious.

Nick Stephens is the QB from Texas that Cut is recruiting. He is committed to Ole Miss, but he is going to be coming in for a visit.Committments mean nothing.Nothing is official till that signature is on the LOI. I think the rehire of Cut when bring in a solid QB in this class.Hopefully it will be MUSTAIN.....
