My Journey to Alaska and back....again (and other Army/YankeeVol life adventures)

I went to the range the day after arriving in my new Company. I go to the field for 10 days Monday. Then a newcomers brief the day after getting out of the field. And soon after I'll have BAR(basic airborne refresher) and CWLC (cold weather leaders course). Talk about hitting the ground running.

Soon.........

Welcome to the 25th ID!

I see you changed your avi, is that a 507th? Which battalion?

BAR...I went to Airborne in 1983, first jump assignment after that was Ranger School in 1991. I fell out of that Blackhawk and hit like a sack of potatoes, but lived. After that the rest of the jumps were better. Have fun!

509th. 3rd battalion. I'm not worried about "jumping." It's not hard to fall out of a plane.

I'll only be going to the field until Thursday or Friday. Then CWOC in Fairbanks the 3rd to the 6th.

I may not be able to make the Thailand jump, they don't know if they can get me in BAR before then.

Yeah, 509th, of course, sucks getting old. Spent a lot of time with 1-509th at Fort Polk. Your battalion was reactivated just after I returned from Afghanistan in 05 and deployed to Iraq in late 06, if I remember right.

Too bad you won't make the jump in Thailand, that is a fun jump and a good exercise overall. Big change in climate from Alaska to Thailand, make sure you have your skeeter net, you'll need it.

wait, were you seriously getting to go to Thailand for the Thai wings? Or was a Thai Jumpmaster just coming there?

Got my Arctic tab

That I can only wear while stationed in Alaska.
