My Journey to Alaska and back....again (and other Army/YankeeVol life adventures)

They now jump the T-11 up here. You have to count til 6 instead of 4.

The biggest change for me was not grabbing the door on your way out. That was ingrained in me from when I was a kid. Dad was a jumpmaster and would literally say "Stand in the door" when we got out of the car. The door position was hands on either side of the door to propel yourself out. Then they changed it so you kept your hands on the reserve which I could never get used to. As an O, I often got the privilege of being the first out and even on my last jump I tried to grab the door. The worst was the time I was about halfway down the stick and ended up back in the door when we had to make a second pass. I stood there about 2 feet from the door, hands on the reserve, while we banked hard, me trying to grip the floor with my toes through my boots. It took everything I had not to just fall out.

I was on jump status at Fort Campbell, believe it or not, and then of course at Fort Polk, JRTC. Only ended up with 25 jumps total, but last 5 came after I tore my PCL so I figure that was enough.

Enjoy it.

you must have been in a C130, your 2 feet from the door in a C141, it will suck you out the door

I'll be jumping a C17

That is supposed to be a nice jump. I had one chance when they first came out. I was at JRTC and a brigade from the 82nd was coming in for their rotation. We flew 2 C17s to Bragg to do the pre-rotation briefings. The first plane jumped but they didn't have the static lines right so almost everyone hit the side of the plane before their chutes deployed. I was in the 2nd plane and they cancelled our jump once they saw the problems.

I'm sure they've fixed that problem by now, that was in 97 or 98.

In '94 or '95 we had someone get caught up in the static lines ad beat to death against the plane
Green Ramp wasnt a good place to be that day
So your S3 air probably made the right call canceling the second bird

I'll be jumping again this month down at Ft. Polk, LA. Won't be able to post for 12-14 days this month as we can't have our phones in the "box"
