Well, here we are, we have two QBs that will give us a chance to win, and both have ZERO experience in the SEC, and one is just out of HS. Tyler's hope of a RS season is gone now, so we have to sign at least 2 QBs for the 2011 class. Stephens leaving completely changed their plans of probably when and who they would recruit as a QB this year. We are not going to go dual-threat, unless they have good pocket presents (I know how to spell, just going for the lulz) and a live arm. We are also going to recruit a Top of the Class kind of guy, and I don't mean the recruiting class. We want a QB that is smart and a natural leader. That is what we have been missing since Casey Clausen, a natural leader at QB. So, as we move forward, I would say your going to hear a lot more about QBs being recruited in this class.

I agree. I think it will make it easier for us to get a top tier qb. This isn't a bash on Bray, but we don't know how well he can play yet

Is it possible that we are too far behind in the game to land an elite qb. I have faith in our recruiters, but when you have programs that have been talking to a kid for a year now, it is hard to believe they will pass them up to go to UT.

Worley and Rivers

Worley yes, Rivers I would say no. Driskell is on that short list, but he's probably Florida bound right now. There will be QBs that emerge from the camp circuit. I would say that Worley and one of those QBs will be two of the more highly recruited QBs for us in this class.

I hate to be the voice of reason around here....but tell me again why an elite QB would come to a school that hasn't done anything since he was in 2nd grade?

You have a point. But hey we have receivers that they can throw to...That's a start right?

It will depend on how we play this year. We went 7-6 and got Bray last year, and by most recruiting experts, he has the most upside of anyone in the last class. Granted, he committed to an idea of what Kiffin was going to build, why can't someone buy into what Dooley is building?? We have to be patient right now, because freaking out and thinking no one will come here will cause nothing but apathy and build on a poor view of where we want to go as a program. Right now, we are at ROCK BOTTOM as a program, and we need people who are leaders and builders to get us a foundation to start building for the future.

Because Kiffin appealed to younger guys. Dooley isn't-that's basically my concern. If he had a great career already then it wouldn't matter....but he doesn't.

Yet, because Dooley chose to go to La. Tech, and not Bama, everyone is holding that against him. At least he has tried to do things without having his father get him to where he is. Kiffin even tried to get Monte at Oakland. If not for Monte, Lane wouldn't be doing much coaching, IMO.

In 1993, an unproven coach at UT got one of, if not, the best QBs to ever play football, to sign with UT.

Dooley will do fine

Hey Folks, we can only trot out the memory of P. Manning to kids for so long........ Heck the guy might retire after next year's SB ! (Win)

We better get some kind of a QB culture and quik !!! I'm talking about "shelling out" some major coin to get a "QB" Coach. WE will be running the freakin' WishBone soon if we don't.

Stephens leaving completely changed their plans of probably when and who they would recruit as a QB this year.

 I think your looking into this too much...

Stephens was a senior... Stephens departure only changes the fact that Bray will probably not RS this year... which really doesn't affect the "who" qb we recruit...

Maybe it affects the number...but we could have signed 2 this year anyway...

If we sign Driskel or another top flight qb...that would be a pretty solid qb rotation with Simms still having another year and Bray being a Sophmore...plus an incoming top freshman qb... and don't forget about Nance...

My thought process was, that if they were planning on Stephens being here, and red-shirting Bray, if Simms was the starter next season, that creates 3 years between Bray getting on campus and Bray possibly starting. Now, with Stephens leaving, it could be this year possibly or next. There is still a possibility he doesn't start until 2012, but I would say getting him on the field is important to recruiting at this point, so you can sell early playing time to someone. Also, more than likely, whoever signs with us, unless they are better than Bray, will only start 2 years max in their careers, if Bray doesn't get injured or declares early for the draft. We are at a disadvantage right now, because we have so many young QBs, but you have to sign 2 now because of depth. It really sucks, and I hope Dooley and Co. can recruit a guy and he understands the situation.

IMO things dont change, we were always after Top QBs and we will continue to do so

My question is who is our number 3? I'm pretty sure Simms will start, Bray will be #2, so is it Nance or Laimason (sp)?

It changes the amount of time we might spend on recruiting certain prospects, before we moved on to more mid-level prospects. We can offer a better depth chart, since a RS QB would gain a year of playing time because Tyler will not be able to redshirt, more than likely.

I think, as Vol fans we've gotten accustomed to not having depth at the QB position. The fix we are currently in is a reflection of that. If Simms falters or gets injured and Bray comes on and wins the job we are seriously hurting next year. We'll have to get at least one top flight QB in this class.

Nance will redshirt...if we sign 2 quality qbs then we will have a freshman log jam and all 3 will not stay their entire careers...we have def. seen that in the past few years..

Also..unless Simms just tears it up this year...Bray will be the starter in '11...and possible reps this year will only get his feet wet...

And like I said before..if we sign a really good qb... we can redshirt him next year and still have a 3 qb rotation...

hmm, didn't another young quarterback come in like a lamb to slaughter and end up doing pretty good???

See, that's the problem I am identifying with. We have to build the program up, but yet we will still go through more natural attrition because of a clogged depth chart in a couple of years. The coaching staff, once it addresses needs, will have to come up with and stick with a template of a recruiting class, not only to keep people happy, but be able to sell some playing time to the more capable freshman prospects.
