Mystery silent QB commit? (merged)

Am I the only one who does not agree with the concept of Silent Commitments..

I think that UT would have to go hard after Rettig and Bray but you may be able to get Bray to flip easier

I agree with your silent commitment statement. It just doesn't make sense for a qb to be a "silent" to us, especially right now. I would say that if anything, this person would be leaning toward decommitting and pledging to UT and our coaches feel confident.

Scroggins goes to USC, and we're talking about mystery commits for qb? getting a little desperate sounding around here.

To be fair, this isn't the first time we've heard the Sims rumor. Someone else started it a few weeks ago and was laughed off the board.

Paul Jones
Bray
Rees

Those are the three that make some sense.

With our need of QB for recruiting, it doesn't make much sense for the coaching staff to keep a commit silent for long. If this rumor is true, I'd expect to see the recruit go public with this soon.

So...if one of those kids commits to UT, the flood gates will open with skill position guys commiting???

I don't think so......

I just read on GoVols that it was Lamaison. He was waiting to complete his academic responsibilities and will be in Knoxville today or tomorrow.

One of the people that started the rumor specifically said that it isn't Bray.
Brunetti would have to be my best guess, although Paul Jones seems to be the best one out there, that's currently committed, but prone to switch (now that Penn State got a recent commit from Bolden, who was also at the recent Elite 11 camp).
Paul Jones is my favorite, then Rettig, Brunetti, and Grayson....in that order. If we take 2 in this class, Grayson would be the perfect #2 guy...a REAL sleeper that has the potential to really wow the coaching staff once on campus.

It was Grayson who won the Golden Gun award at a recent Elite 11 camp in Las Vegas, where Rettig competed

Not exactly, but it's alot easier to sell a WR on the upside of one of those three than to sell "We will get a QB to get you the ball".

I still think that if we didn't sign a QB at all UT is almost assured Milton and in the running for Prater and Cobbs. I just think it's an easier sell on the last two if we have a QB with good upside in place. Plus Jones and Bray a 4*s just like Scroggins. It's not an instant solution, but it helps.

Ut Medical Center has successfully cloned Eric Berry and thru a successful accelarated growth process he will be available for 2010 season at qb.

I still do not get the hype on Lamaison. How is this guy just sitting around the house in late July and he ends up at UT the next week.

Without him, we would only have 2 scholarship QBs on the roster this year. He was basically brought in to provide depth. I'll be shocked if he actually sees meaningful playing time this year.

Jones would be as big of a draw as Scroggins.

If it means getting Jones...them I'd be elated Scroggins chose elsewhere.

I never subscribed to the theory that Scroggins was our last hope to bring in other offensive players. Everybody now knows he's USC bound, yet these players are still considering UT.
