Mystery silent QB commit? (merged)

I still do not get the hype on Lamaison. How is this guy just sitting around the house in late July and he ends up at UT the next week.

a.) Most quarterbacks who are in college or transferring between two colleges are sitting around the house in late July. :p

b.) I think you overestimate the hype factor a little. At Tennessee we are admittedly a bit desperate in the depth department. Anything with QB listed under position heading is going to be newsworthy to us. We don't have a stud redshirt sophomore and a stud true freshman battling it out this year in what is likely a win/win situation at USC.

It's definitely not "hype" in the world of college football other than the fact that Kiffin has brought some publicity to the school, so that anyone committing/transferring to us may get a little blurb in blogs and recruiting circles. No one with a sense of reality should be seriously expecting All-Conference honors from him if he ever sees the field.

I dont see it but at least two people have mentioned that Sims is wavering on his commitment to Bama and is interested in Tennessee. Brunetti is a guy i honestly think we could land if we tried. Bray is another guy i think we can land if we continue to pursue him. I say dont worry alot about the qb situation because our coaches are working it. My best guess is the "secret commit" is Sims out of Bama.

Not to burst your bubble, but I thought it was the other Sims (Blake not Phillip) that was rumored to be wavering.

From the News-Sentinel.....

Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin announced Friday that junior college All-America quarterback Nick Lamaison from Mt. San Antonio (Calif.) College has signed to play football for the Volunteers this season. The Walnut, Calif., native is expected to enroll at UT for the Fall semester and will take part in UT’s preseason drills.

The 6-1, 210-pound signal caller passed for 3,479 yards and 36 touchdowns while boasting a 166.5 efficiency rating as a freshman for the Mounties last season. With Lamaison under center, Mt. SAC finished the 2008 campaign with a 12-2 record, won the Central Conference championship, reached the state title game and was ranked second in the state of California and No. 3 nationally.

In addition to his JC Athletic Bureau First-Team All-America laurels, Lamaison also was named to the California Community College Region 3 Offensive First Team and was selected as the Region 3 Offensive Player of the Year.

Lamaison is a graduate of South Hills High School in Covina, Calif.

More details as they develop online and in Saturday's News Sentinel.

it is Bray
"I fit in a pro-style offense," he said. "That's why I committed to San Diego State, because they run an offense that can get you to the next level." Bray says that while his commitment to the Aztecs is firm, he won't turn away any new suitors that are interested in him.

"I will just have to sit down with my family and my quarterback coach and see what happens when it settles," he said. "I want to see what they want and see what I want. I will definitely listen to them."

Then it seems like they are referring to BLAKE Sims, not the other...and Blake is more an athlete than a QB

Not exactly, but it's alot easier to sell a WR on the upside of one of those three than to sell "We will get a QB to get you the ball".

I still think that if we didn't sign a QB at all UT is almost assured Milton and in the running for Prater and Cobbs. I just think it's an easier sell on the last two if we have a QB with good upside in place. Plus Jones and Bray a 4*s just like Scroggins. It's not an instant solution, but it helps.

Ok....but how much "upside" do the 2010 qbs really have?? Some of these guys are ranked higher than 40th (would not be in the top 75 in 2011).

Its like being so desperate for a prom date, ya take your ugly cousin? WHY?

He claims a source within the AD that he met a few months back. He did tell everyone that Scroggins had informed the coaches that he was choosing USC earlier this week. So, he got that one right.
Actually, Scroggins said in an interview the last time he talked with Coach Pete was 3 weeks ago and told him then that he was commiting.

So the source is off, and Scroggins is a punk, IMHO.

He's talking about JS informing our coaches at the first of the week not PC. So, I would say the source was pretty much dead on.

Lets hope it is Barkley transfering......lol.

I Also heard Hamilton is donating a large some of money to the Mormon Church to have a Grand Pooba Temple erected in Knoxville.

Being serious, I would say it is Hendrix or Bray.

i think its just knee jerk wanting to stir the pot and is completely and utterly without merit. We may get a guy to switch but it aint gonna happen till well into the season and will be based on what we put on the field.

Hendrix is too much in love with ND...He's not decommitting

There isn't a silent qb. Sorry. We need the boost to get in some offensive guys.

All reports are that our coaches were told this week. Just because he told Carroll didn't mean he told Kiffin. Back off the kid. He made the right decision for himself and his family. He did it in a way to get publicity for the school he's attending.

I just read on GoVols that it was Lamaison. He was waiting to complete his academic responsibilities and will be in Knoxville today or tomorrow.

That's not much of a mystery. It has been known that he was going to be a Vol for several weeks.

Lamaison is already in Knoxville, and probably has been for a few days.

Wasnt the rumor that it was somebody who was committed to somewhere else? Lamaison was never really "committed" to anybody. He played for somebody else e.g. Mt. Sac.

I actually hope it's not Bray. Dude is so freaken slow. I know he is accurate, but some poster posted a link to his myspace and after looking through his pics, it doesn't seem like football is a priority to this kid.
