The way it read initially I thought somebody had fashioned a free rope and laid it in a conspicuous place. In hearing where it was and what it was used for NASCAR way over played this.

Sometime in the recent past somebody was bored and found something to do to waste 15 minutes without having an idea what a **** storm it would cause.

This is the key right here.
Literally nobody would use a knot like that to pull down a door because it would tighten around the hand.
If there since October, how in the Wide World of Sports would people know it would be in Watson's?

Yep, the original story made it sound like it was just laying in his stall as a threat, not attached to the garage door. Obviously someone tied it that way but the intent or lack there of comes into play due to how long it’s been there.

So did Bubba "double down on stupid" when he reiterated that it was a noose?... @Weezer was he trying to perpetuate that racism was at play by correctly calling it a noose?...or did people here ironically and erroneously jump to conclusions after getting so worked up about people jumping to conclusions?

Can you not just use common sense? It’s a rope tied into a knot that is being used as a pull for the garage door. Pull down ropes are common on these shop garage doors, I’ve seen them personally here in Tennessee at shops I’ve worked at. It was also there long before bubba wallace, so it clearly wasn’t put there to target some black guys. Good god man, stop looking for racism where it doesn’t exist.

It’s clearly a garage pull fashioned needlessly as a noose. However the overt usage and hype of “noose” was overboard. Even NASCAR has admitted they over reacted based on where the “noose” was located and how it was intended to be used.

From their perspective they had to answer “was this an act specifically targeting Wallace.” to which they quickly determined no it was not based on the timeline of how long it was there. Thus their explanation that “no one could have predicted the 43 team would be assigned stall 4.”

what was more important was went unsaid in their report which was “we’re not race car people but it seemed kinda damn clear what this device was used for and can’t understand why those dumbass rednecks jumped to racism instead of considering its function and not leaping out over their skis.”

But alas they offered no such expanding statement

It's like a lighter shaped like a gun; looks like a gun but isn't a gun.

Im not sure why whether its a functioning noose or not is really all that relevant unless it was going to be used as one anyway.

If it was used as a prop to intimidate or serve the point of reflecting one is what would matter in this situation. And from the investigation and pictures that doesn't seem to be the case at all. As you stated its a garage pull that resembles a noose, but doesn't have anything else attached to it other than a door at this point. Right now there isn't anything that suggests it was there for any other reason.
Its a rabbit not worth chasing IMO.

I wasn't involved in their investigation. I'll just take their report at face value.
