Nathan Niehaus has left the team

Wasn’t Lampley running ahead of him also?

You might be right. Even if our O-line sucked the past 2 seasons, we're pretty loaded for the future right now. Niehaus might've gotten squeezed out with that. Given that we're also in good shape at TE (he played TE a lot in high school), probably couldn't move there either.

I think he'd be a great pickup for many schools. Curious if West Virginia and Houston might be interested in him. We beat out WV for him in his recruitment and Holgorsen is now at Houston. He can play and potentially start for the right team.

That said, the fact that he got pushed so far down the depth chart may be a good sign for our O-line. Only wish our D-line looked as deep.

Good luck to the kid. We always could use the depth and with our injury history and his experience would have been good for the team if he would have stayed. Sure to learn the ultimate reason he left soon enough.

Guy on TOS said it was medical. Apparently he attends practices, etc. so it may be legit. Best of luck to him.

We have had multiple guys athletically retire on the O-Line the last couple seasons, yet this guy couldn't crack himself on the two-deep at tackle after multiple developmental years to build himself up....says a lot about him imo. Either he has it by now or he doesn't. Probably mad a freshman took his spot after being here so long..boo hoo. Step up or step aside.

Maybe he just decided he didn't want to commit so much of his life to football anymore? The temptation is always to gravitate to some dark reason a guy does something like this... Sometimes it has nothing to do with anything but them.

No, it says a lot about you that you would say such despicable things about a person that you know nothing about.

He may have medical issues. He may want to do something else (I know he wants to go into law enforcement). Or maybe he wants a shot at starting elsewhere; he could pretty easily start for most G5 programs and a handful of P5 schools, as well. Regardless, your post is completely out of line, and I doubt you'd want anyone judging you by such shallow standards.

He may have medical issues. He may want to do something else (he's already graduated and has stated he wants to go into law enforcement before). It was quoted that he literally practiced yesterday, on Tuesday, and was moved from right tackle to right guard. Then he left the team. Nothing was said about his medical condition. We are left with an educated assumption that he up and quit the team. He had the opportunity to move on during the off-season if he wanted to. But to quit on your team in the first week of fall practice speaks loud enough.

Whether or not he was starting, Tennessee has invested alot in his development and his teammates were depending on him whether it was as a starter or a depth position. He was accounted for and part of the plan going into the season by the coaching staff. Choosing to leave as the season is getting under way, because he wants to start somewhere else shouldn't be accepted as the norm. Actions speak louder than words, and unless there is a valid circumstance that excused his absence he is otherwise a quitter...regardless if I say it or someone else.

FYI, he practiced in the two deep at RG just day before yesterday.

He has been practicing Guard and Tackle since he was thrown in at RG last year for the first time in the Auburn game. Practicing both spots is not new to Nate, so no. He’s not mad or butt hurt because he “suddenly moved” Tues.
