Nathan Niehaus has left the team

I watched the Auburn game last night. It astonished me at just how small Nathan looked. He looked like an undersized tight end playing offensive tackle.

If he was one of our best options last year and is concerned about playing time this year, that tells me all I need to know if we should expect to be better up front this year.

He looks leaner than he is because he’s a quarter inch shy of 6’7 with a very long torso and long arms and legs. He is the leanest looking 300 lb person I’ve ever seen. But he is right at 300 right now.

If he all the sudden left the team was his heart just not in it anymore? Has he been dealing with injuries?

He has been dealing with back issues since last spring. He has had treatment for this with no resolution. It has zero to do with not having heart or being mad because of playing time. It is because of his back. Plain and simple.

We have had multiple guys athletically retire on the O-Line the last couple seasons, yet this guy couldn't crack himself on the two-deep at tackle after multiple developmental years to build himself up....says a lot about him imo. Either he has it by now or he doesn't. Probably mad a freshman took his spot after being here so long..boo hoo. Step up or step aside.

He was a project from day 1 when Butch brought him in. Sometimes athletes are just not good enough to play at a certain level.

Kinda like if Pruitt offered you his spot. You'd have to decide if you want to work for years only to ride the bench. Or xfer to some rec league to get some PT. There's no quit or boohoo in that.

Im not glad to hear that he had to medically retire. But, I am glad that he gave his all for Tennessee and hope he gets a great education.

If Nathan left because of health reasons, I can understand, but if he left because he’s butt hurt, that’s a totally different story IMHO
