Nathan Peterman - think he can bounce back?

The fact that seems to escape all but a select few on Vol Nation is that the quarterbacks have struggled because none of them have even played a full season total in their careers.

Worley played a little over 7 games this year, zero last year, and I think 3 in 2011, So.Carolina, MTSU and Arkansas. Dobbs played 4 and 1/2, and Peterman maybe less than a half. The game was just starting to slow down for Worley when he got hurt. Dobbs hasn't gotten there yet, but he will, and so will Peterman and Ferguson given time. They have all have looked like a deer caught in the headlights at times, except Ferguson, and that is probably due to the lack of headlights so far.

Ferguson has never taken an SEC snap ... methinks folks get sold on this kid as he's the only one of the 4 that hasn't. Down side, he got hurt in practice how the heck would he fare in an actual hostile place like The Swamp? Based on nothing more than I saw during Peterman's first and only start, he was not prepared to execute. In comparison just take a look around the country at his peers, either redshirt freshman or just plain old freshman who started at other BCS program schools and how they fared. Peterman bombed out plain and simple. One his peers made us look silly, does the RS freshman Mauck from Mizzou ring any bells for you to see how he fared when given an opportunity? I wish the best for Peterman, maybe he could work out well in an FCS program somewhere, the bright lights came on and the kid wilted plain and simple.

What's everyone's thoughts on this guy? Do you think he'll bounce back from the disastrous debut he had against Florida and get some significant PT in orange next year, or do you see him riding the pine and/or transferring?

done for as a vol. horrible don't describe how bad he played.

I'd love to believe that Ferguson is the next Manziel without the baggage.

I love that Johnny Football was the anti-Tebow. He was living the dream of the BMoC.

I would be ecstatic for any of our QBs to be 3/4 Manziel with ALL the baggage.

I hope he bounces back. He took so much heat after the UF game. But he was only a freshman. He has a lot of time to progress and frankly, I don't care who the QB is as long as they get the job done.

In just to register that Peterman, here or elsewhere, will have the most successful career W/L record as a starter of the four on campus, and will be drafted the highest.

I think his big problem has been holding the ball too long. If he can get rid of it, he could be successful. That's the difference that put him behind the others.

I am not giving up on him after one game. Granted, it was bad, but I expect our QB play to get much better. This year showed us that we need all four, especially since we don't have a QB in the 2014 class.

His passer rating that game was .7 - not 70, 17 or even 7 .... point 7

Furgie is gonna take this thing over in spring ball... battle will be for mop up QB, and sadly that won't happen often in 2014.

He is definitely better than he showed, but has dug himself a deep hole to climb out of.

I never rule anyone out but it's a pretty long shot.

Still, if the cards fall right, who knows?

I hope he bounces to something good. As for bouncing back, I don't know where that would be honestly. He has nowhere to go but up from a 0.01 QB rating.

Peterman wasn't Gatorade Player of the Year.

I also think he wasnt in the Elite 11. Dobbs and Ferguson were but Peterman:no:. I think he will compete in spring and finish the school term and transfer to UCF or USF or Florida Atlantic to be closer to home.

I think going up against UF for his first start was a bit too much for him to handle. But, he wouldn't of gotten the start if the coaches didnt see anything there. He's our only QB that is built to take a lot of hits in a game and not get injured, so that helps out his chances also. Overall I always saw him as a more athletic version of Worley that just needs a better grip on the offense.

That was a 4-8 Florida team he was up against, not SEC champ world beaters. I know their defense was pretty good when healthy, but he did not look capable of running the offense... nor did he look like an SEC caliber QB.

I want what's best for Nate Peterman. I really have a ton of respect for this kid and his family. The character issue is off the charts positive....probably could transfer and be successful at another school. I just think that our future is probably with Worley, Ferg. or Dobbs...which ever can stay healthy and run our offense...kinda wish we could combine the skill sets of all and have one great QB...
