National Championship

Pretty sad that a great game was flavored by inept officiating.

That was a microcosm of the year in officiating. The game is getting tougher to call, but this year was horrendous. Making it tough to watch. Can't believe they don't call a flagrant Saturday and miss two out of bounds tonight. Just bad.

Duke gets it done. Credit Coach K. We have had lots of chances and couldnt do it. UK goes to 4/6 Final fours and only wins 1. Duke goes to 2/6 and wins 2.

Feels awful.

Helluva game. Wisc passed up so many open shots. Can't believe how good Duke will be next year.

Yea, I hate duke too. I didn't think they'd win it--not with three freshman starters. This was like Connecticut's championship--not out of nowhere, but surprising.

Wisconsin tonight played like our women's team--scared. If you aren't aggressive and play to win, the other team will. When the had a six point lead, Duke started playing more aggressively--as they had to--and Wisconsin just wilted, strangely.

I thought Wisconsin was the better team the majority of the game, but that doesn't matter.

Good win for the State University. No doubt now that Coach K will be cemented as the best coach in college basketball history.

It's like if UK doesn't win it...it's always some team that we don't like or hate. UL, UNC, Kansas, Duke, UConn, UF.

I hope once he retires they go back into what they were before he got there....mostly irrelevant with minimal history. But probably not.

Wooden says pump the brakes a bit. No doubt he's in the conversation, but it's far from cemented.

I won't argue the piss poor officiating. But I will throw in that, like the entire tournament, it was awful on both sides of the ball.

Have they indicated as much or speculation?

They haven't indicated, but Okafor is a top 3 pick. Winslow has been a stud in the tournament, and his stock probably won't be higher. Jones is clutch. Cook is a senior. It will be a much different team.

And until that's fixed college basketball will continue to degrade. Outside of a few great games it was a slog of a season and I'm fine with letting it go.

True. Officiating has gone downhill in all sports over the past 10 years.

I often wonder how much of our perception of officiating (declining) is tied to more camera angles with slow motion HD detail.

Not sure. Okafor, Winslow, and Jones are gone.

Sure about Jones?

Not disagreeing just haven't seen anything projecting him as a top pick. He's not the athlete the NBA typically drools over.

Maybe late 1st? 20-25?

I just love the college game. I always will. But your point is valid for most.

Wooden's players were bought and sold.

I think he was a pretty good guy, but his players were more mercenary than Cal's. Maybe he didn't know about it? But it doesn't matter. Facts are facts.

K, as far as we know, has done it honest. Although, we would never have thought Dean fallible. So K's time of questioning will probably come as well. I don't believe in perfectly clean coaches. They ceased to exist for me when UNC got called out for decades of wrongdoing.

Obviously Coach K is superior to Calipari. Not much of a question. But a lot of credit goes to high IQ players that Duke gets. Kentucky gets measurables that makes NBA salivate but not the brightest of kids.

Not 100%. But he will make money playing basketball, and I would say the tournament really improved his stock. He and Okafor were close, so I am not sure if he would stick around.
