NBA Championship: Mavs vs. Heat (merged)

Having whining to the refs, wanting fouls, flopping, etc. on that list means you really must hate almost every single NBA player.

Someone said "You're a fan, so you ignore his 'flaws.'" Well, you hate the guy, so you emphasize any little annoyance. Just by definition, every player in the NBA does this. Every single one.

The first part just isn't true because he does it at a much higher rate and he fakes them completely. A lot of players don't complain after 50% of their missed shots and a lot of players don't pretend like they were hit when they weren't even touched. They might embellish but they don't flat out fake it.

And if that's how you want to look at the second part, go for it. But it just means you're in the 10-20% portion according ESPN and CBS polls and that was over 50,000 people voting. So, don't act like I'm the only one that feels this way about Lebron because essentially everybody does except for Lebron/Heat fans. And people can't say it's because they hate winners...

There's a big difference. I'm not a big hater, though, so maybe I'm just different. New England is the last team I want to see win, but even though they've had douches like Harrison, I don't hate the individual players. You basically have to commit a heinous act on the field for me to hate you.

If I hated athletes for personal differences (being arrogant, voicing political opinions, off the field troubles, etc) then there would almost be no athletes left to admire. I admire them for what they do on the field. That is all.

Jesus, somebody gets it.

I hate the Yankess, therefore hate A-Rod, when A-Rod played for Seattle and Texas, I was indifferent, he didn't matter to me, now that he plays for New York, i don't like him, if he were to get traded to another team right now, I would go back to being indifferent on him.

I grew up playing sports, went to college to play and now I coach.

Every player worth a crap is cocky.

Are you a fan of the Heat's rival? Or do you just hate LeBron, no matter who he plays for?

I put him in the same category I put u of m football. I root for the team that is playing against them every week.

I guess the bigger question in all of this is, why does it automatically turn into hate just because you are rooting against someone?

I hate Lebron in spite of he plays for, and his desire for self-promotion and unnecessary exposure had me rooting against the Heat, in spite of Miami having two former Gators on their roster.

He reserved a full hour of primetime television in order to tell the world where he was "taking his talents"...then he declared that he'd win 8 or 9 NBA titles.

He did those things. Not his critics. Him.

Then he shat all over himself in the Finals. He was a bum for 5 straight games.

He deserves the criticism. When he leads his team to a title, he'll deserve the praise.

If the heat win next year, he will still face the crtisicm of have ing to leave Cleveland and "go to Wade's team" to do it.

His play in the Finals should bring him critics, he didn't play well, again, that is not what has been discussed.

I have one final question.

Why are Lebron fans arguing it's stupid to hate him or arguing that you shouldn't hate him?

I haven't seen anyone argue that it's stupid for you guys to like Lebron or argue that you should stop liking Lebron.

We just don't like him. Nothing can be said by you guys to change our minds about him. At this point, Lebron himself would struggle to change our minds about him. I don't care if you like him... but I'm not going to.

Well you either hate him personally, or you hate his game? Which is it? Maybe you hate him for the team(s) he's played on, but I doubt it.

You don't have the ability to separate what a player says about the game or does on the court from personal hate off the court?

How is it remotely possible to personally hate someone I don't know?

It's all about basketball... you are acting like I hope he drives his car off a cliff... I root against him and his team.

He does it at the same rate as almost every star in the NBA. They all whine, moan, and groan for every potential call to go their way. LeBron included.

I have always liked LeBron and thought he got too much hate... and my roommate is a hugeeeee LeBron fan... but after watching the finals even we were kind of just sick of it. Not even with off the court stuff, just watching him play all series had us both thoroughly annoyed. He was never my favorite player/athlete by any means, but I didn't think he deserved the overall hate that he got.

If the hate is directed at disappearing in the finals, then yeah, he has earned that now. But (not saying people here)... other people acting like he's the worst guy on earth for going to Miami, or for whatever reason, got real, real, real old.

Do you hate Notre Dame, Ohio State, Duke, North Carolina etc.?

Surely you hate some non-rival teams of Tennessee but why if they have nothing to do with Tennessee? Do you hate Pryor? Reggie Bush? Favre? Ryan Leaf? Barry Bonds?

It doesn't, and just cause you root agianst him doesn't mean you fall into that category of people who expect a guy who throws a ball at a hoop for a living to be some outstanding human being.

He plays basketball for a living, he isn't a politician or a church leader or someone that society holds in a higher regard from a moral standpoint.

This was my point when I said, I wasn't instigating or saying he's a class guy, I was just asking. that Kev20 nitpicked at...

I'm not trying to change anyone's mind, I don't know the guy, it doesn't affect me in any way really, I just seriously wanted a listed explanation.

what I was really asking was, did someone actually say in here that they hate him or did you LBJ lovers just jump on his side when he called people who rooted against the Heat haters? I'm just saying that I didn't read everything in here so I don't know if someone actually used that word.

Disagree with last part. He is someone people hold to a higher moral standpoint because kids look up to them and pretend to be them when they play outside ( some kids at least still play outside). It's not just lebron either. It's Dwight, Kobe, Jordan, Chris Paul etc. They are held to higher morals by the common fan because of that. Is it fair? Debatable. But it is what it is.

I'm indifferent on those teams cause they have no effect on the team(s) I pull for.

None of the players you mentioned mean anything to me, if Bonds played for New York he would be right up there with A-rod, since he didn't, I don't care about him.

I didn't mind him prior to leaving Cleveland and he even played in the same division as my favorite team. He's changed a lot since then. From the way he acts to the things he says. The fact that I didn't mind him while playing for a rival and hate him while playing for a team says a lot about the player he has become. At least in my mind.

I don't him but I can't stand him. I don't wish harm on him or his family but I do want him to fail at getting a ring until he grows up and becomes truely humble. Jmo.

I guess my like and dislike extends past my teams rivals. There are number of schools, teams and players I dislike that have nothing to do with my favorite teams. I think I told you before, it allows me to keep up with the rest of the league. I'll pull for other teams but has more to do with having nothing against them while disliking the team/players they are playing. I don't like any teams like I like the Vols, Pacers, Astros and Titans. Even when I pull for another team, their championships mean nothing to me. I'm just more glad they won it than others since mine didn't.

This is an entirely different debate all together.

I will just say this, I have two young sons and it is my responsibility for them to look up to me as their father, not some random guy throwing a ball.

Everyone is going to have haters. My contention is just that the level of hate is weird.

I just think it's absurd how many people hate Lebron basically for being a cocky douche when there are so many cocky douches in sports to choose from. I don't remember even close to this level of joy when the LA lost in 2004. Reasons to rejoice for Kobe losing 2004 finals:

1 - Cocky douche
2 - Father was an NBA player (America resents those born to privilege).
3 - It was on the heels of rape allegations and of course the certainty that he committed adultery.
4 - Played for the hated Lakers who had 15 or so titles
5 - Kobe had won 3 titles already

Now contrast that with Lebron 2011:

1 - Cocky douche
2 - no Father to speak of. Rough upbringing. His Mom still hasn't grown up. She bangs his teammates and assaults valet.
3 - Even with a bad upbringing, Lebron is not guilty of anything other than being arrogant.
4 - plays for Heat = 1 title
5 - has 0 titles

Why in the hell is America so much more happy about Lebron losing?

This thread is for the Finals series but what are we talking about?

When the Mavs won, more people came on here to say suck it LeBron then they did to say way to go Mavs.

Hate has been thrown out there but even the ones who haven't used the word certainly seem like they feel that way.
