‘23 NC DL Daevin Hobbs (Tennessee commit)

I think now. Sabans age in addition to no longer being the clear number 1 team in the SEC MIGHT lead to retirement. He now wouldn't be favored against UGA. Jimbo Fischer is a thorn in his side, Heupel has shown his offense will give Saban Nightmares, and Kelly will have a more consistent LSU team for Saban to compete against (outside of the 1 year that Ed O lucked into). If Auburn gets a good higher, I could see Saban looking to retire in 2 to 3 years.
Auburn should’ve been on the phone with Matt Rhule...yesterday!

I love how every single time Alabama loses a single game, people immediately start claiming the dynasty is over or “Saban is washed” or “he needs to retire.” I wish that was the case, but let’s be real this is like the 6th time that the “dynasty is ending” has occurred. The Tide very likely will win out the rest of the season and make it to Atlanta. They ain’t going anywhere.
Wrong. The “Dynasty “ is over.
They had Clemson and Ohio st on that top tier recruiting level for about a dozen years. That’s it.
Then Kirby went to Georgia and started getting 2-3 players a year Bama would always get, then Jimbo and all that Texas money started getting 2-3, Kiffin at Ole Miss, always gonna pull a few, now Huep.
He’s not stacking top 20 players on top of each other every year anymore.
They basically are coming back closer to the pack.
Sure they’ll be good, but the Dynasty is over.

Without the interest from the public which is somewhat fueled by the media, these coaches don’t make $millions each year. Those media guys have a job to do like anyone else - they’re not the poparazzi. No reason they shouldn’t be treated with respect. Huepel doesn’t appear to be contentious with the media?

Ohh dear God. Neyland held 88000 people when I was 5 years old and there were 3 total college games shown per week. Some of these idiots have asked some snarky questions at Saban and he has given them the business. He learned to deal with the media from Belichik who learned it from Parcells. Just because some of these people have a media credential doesn’t make them Grantland Rice.

It’s crazy. I mean some make it sound like Bama lost to an unranked team that’s terrible. They lost ONE game to the undefeated #6 team in the country by 3 freaking points. There have been posters on here that said Bama has been in the decline for the past 6-7 years.

Bama could very easily win the national championship this year.

I just said it in another thread too; if we can upgrade our secondary talent, we will be unstoppable

Absolutely. The defensive front 7 have been great at getting in the backfield and shutting down the run in particular. Fix that back 4/5 and the Vols will be hard for anyone to beat.

They’re working on it. Have a good group of DBs for this class and the ‘24 class looks loaded at DB with some in-state guys like Beasley and Boo.

But I think DB is where we could potentially benefit most from the transfer portal this off-season. DB, RB and TE will be areas of focus there.

If Tennessee lands Tyler Scott (and we're in good shape) to go with what's already committed, we have 8 DBs coming in as freshmen. You can only dedicate so much of your 85-man roster to DBs. I doubt they're looking for DBs in the portal. I'd guess RB, LB, and TE would be the bigger focus in the portal.

Depends on the DBs that enter the portal. If they see someone they consider plug-and-play, they probably go after him. You go after the guys you think make you a better team, no matter the position.

That's a great point. I think my concern would be depending on incoming freshmen to contribute immediately. You're right though, obviously we can't dedicate too many guys to one area of the team, but this team could potentially really benefit from bringing in a guy or two with D1 experience.

We’re playing 4 senior linebackers. Seems like we could use a portal veteran there to go along with the young guys we’ve recruited?

Absolutely! Obviously, the coaches have a better understanding of how guys are developing behind the guys in the secondary and at LB. I trust their judgement on it all, but I think we could use some help on the defensive side of the ball from the transfer portal.

This past Saturday should tell you we need DB depth like we need air to breath. Everyone literally got hurt and a walk on okayed the whole last bama drive at corner. We’ll take DB’s in the portal if the right ones go in.

Add NIL to this list as well. This weakened the Alabama recruiting advantage...$$$

CJH has an offense that can roll those teams. Kirby will never have an offense that outshines his defenses. Saban has to much turnover and Jimbo might as well be the dinosaur of the group running the mess he calls offense. If the defense keeps improving Tennessee has the potential to be on top for a long time.

Tennessee boat races Clemson.

My only real concern is winning a shootout against OSU as much as it pains me

Yeah he’ll prob only put his team in position to win a NC every 3-4 years now instead of every year or every other year lol

In all seriousness, Bama’s future success will depend on continuing to recruit elite skill guys. Bryce Young is a game changer. If they find another one of those they’re gonna be just fine

I wonder if this staff feels like any of these freshmen might the special kind who can be a star (or at least good) right off the bat. It sometimes happens. Eric Berry. Minkah Fitzpatrick. Tyrann Mathieu. Even a guy like Jason Parker was pretty darn good as a freshman. I know those guys are rare, but maybe we have one in this bunch. Jordan Matthews would be the prime suspect, but could be Gibson or Smith, as well.

8? We only have 6 committed right now.
