'25 NC OT David Sanders (Tennessee commit)

You think Elarbee would be the one calling not Heupel?? Dude you are clueless
Recruiting is delegated. You're the one that's clueless if you think Heupel is the one making all of those calls. And who do players want to hear from? The coach that is actually going to coach them, their position coach. Heupel has a million things on his plate. His role is to close. He's not in charge of every recruit.

But he should be on the phone with Sanders.

I no longer get worn out over recruiting. I did in 1986 when the top player in America, Leroy Thompson of Knoxville, spurred the Vols for Penn State. We never knew at the time Tennessee had a better RB already on campus redshirting, Reggie Cobb.

No question Tennessee needs Sanders for multiple reasons. First is simply to play, second, for the recruiting impact for ‘26 & later classes. That said, I can’t criticize Tennessee if they lose him. They poured a lot into his recruitment and gave him a deal that he & his family accepted, if not in writing, at least in principle. I can’t see Spyre going back with more money to them. That would basically be professional suicide with every current & future recruit coming back at the last minute with another offer.

Hopefully he stays true to his commitment with the good guys, wants to play in the best conference in the country, develop for a future both academically and athletically that can provide generational wealth for him and his family. If he doesn’t, it’s not

Update: Ohio State doesn’t sound very confident this am, Sanders was thought to stay until Tuesday, but as I mentioned last night he returned home this AM.

I expect him and his family to discuss this thoroughly throughout the week.
They must've finally seen the photo where Sanders was making the Vol sign.

I'm an eternal optimist but there are some real red flags out there??? Why did Sanders take his entire family up there on his own dime ( although i'm sure OSU is footing some of it) if he wasn't interested. Makes no sense, especially after he told noone about his intentions to go there...... You would think he would have had at least the courtesy to tell UT. Something else that is really concerning is that DS might also be at the Michigan game this Weekend, as reported by Jeremy Birmingham, an OSU insider and reliable.

Sanders has been committed to Tennessee since Aug. 17 and had been Mr. Vol ever since, only visiting and talking with the SEC program.

But with the three-day Early Signing Period beginning on Dec. 4 fast approaching, Sanders and his family are giving Ohio State another opportunity as they dot I’s and cross T’s on their own process.

Ohio State finished as the “close” runner-up to Tennessee the first time around a source told On3. Word is the family enjoyed being back in Columbus for two days getting back around Ryan Day and the staff. The Sanders family sees an opportunity to make an instant impact on the offensive front for one of the best programs in the country. Sanders got back around the commits and players on the team. His parents reconnected with folks they enjoyed being around on past visits to Ohio State including the family of Paris Johnson.

All the vibes were extremely positive. On3 is hearing talk of possibly returning for the game against Michigan this coming Saturday.

We’ll see if another program Sanders had a lot of love for takes another swing but Ohio State is viewed as the biggest challenger to Tennessee.

As it stands right now, Sanders is the jewel of a Tennessee class ranked No. 9 nationally. He is the No. 6 overall prospect in the country per the On3 Industry. Ohio State is pushing for the No. 1 class. Sanders could put them over the top.

I’ll be honest, it took everyone by surprise up here when he committed to Tennessee. We were hearing equally re-assuring things as Vol Nation was. He was extremely close with the staff, loved the culture, loved the city, etc. I wouldn’t surprise me at all if he ends up being a Buckeye. There’s few programs in the country who can compete with The Ohio State University. Indiana and Tennessee are two that cannot.

In the last decade, OSU has lost to powerhouses Virginia Tech, Michigan State, Iowa, Missouri and Purdue. Surely those teams could never compete with Ohio State.

For a recruit, maybe, not for a high profile transfer
Transfer portal isn't officially open so we're talking recruits, but even then, the process is the same. Initial contact is made by the position coach. The head coach is the closer.
