People keep saying "more portal in the Spring", but that means missing Spring practice where much of next year's team is set. Plus it ignores the fact that the talent pool in the Spring window will more likely be less because it will most likely be comprised of guys who couldn't win the starting job in Spring practice, which is why they're entering the portal at that time. The vast bulk of talent enters in the current window because they know the importance of Spring practice.
Yep.

Not true after spring
The Spring portal window will be diluted by a bunch of guys who failed to win starting jobs in Spring practice. Not impossible we find someone then, but the bulk of the talent enters in the current window so they can be there for Spring practice. I think you're selling the importance of Spring practice and an off-season in our S&C program short. If we don't get someone now, then my guess is we'll look for solutions on the current roster. Hopefully guys like Umarov and Lang can take that next step. Even then, we'll still have major depth concerns.

I don't disagree, but there is still gonna be another opportunity to add some help.
So what is your point? The staff needs to fill holes they can’t worry about missed practice in the spring…should we complain about missed practice I am confused?
Well we don’t need to bring in a whole new offense after spring, just a couple dudes.
How much "help" we find in the next portal window is debatable. And the importance of Spring practice for the OL is building that unity and cohesion. Not to mention the off-season S&C which, for our OL, gets them ready to play at the fast pace with which we operate. That's not to say we couldn't get lucky in the Spring window, but any additions would have missed valuable time.

I'm of the opinion the quality of player we see in the Spring will be less. Mostly guys who failed to win a starting job in Spring practice. I could be wrong, but I might be right. Time will tell.

Maybe Umarov will have developed enough to overtake DD at RT?

But we still won't have depth.
Let’s pray. But them targeting three OL shows they don’t like what they have. And even paid a mincey more to stay and deal with his headache until the bowl game happened and he spiraled again.

Prob can still snag an OL or two that can contribute and be up to speed by the time they need to be

I don't think it's that they "don't like" what they have so much as they're unsure of what they have and if they'll be ready. If they "don't like" what we have, that's a huge red flag on Elarbee because most of what's left is guys he's recruited or brought in through the portal. I think it's more uncertainty.

Not saying it's impossible, but I believe it's improbable. As I've said, I think what we'll see in the next window will be lesser talent. Hopefully we either find our guys now, or I'm wrong about the Spring window. We won't know the latter until the Spring window actually comes around.

Yeah I think the bigger issue they're trying to address is allowing the younger guys time to develop by adding a couple of starters from there portal now.

I think they like who we have but they're young and offensive linemen need time, generally, to develop at this level.

And I agree. I'd like to buy the young guys a year or two also...

By one fall camp? Maybe but they are still behind. They have been pushing for those three because spring is a big part to learn our scheme and have two full windows to learn. It’s a big ask for one fall camp and limits our offense.

Nah I think they’ll be ok

They still have a former walk on slated to start at RT if we get no one else. And that most likely wouldn’t change.

I think we can agree not to get too hung up on a depth chart in January.
Fingers crossed for after spring we get a few OL. We have to in order to compete next year. I am sure they will but likely not as talented as the few we wanted right now.

Agree mostly but now that the NIL Circus has come to NCAA town, don‘t be surprised to see more starter type talent searching for bigger bags in the spring and we might just be willing to up the ante then…

Again, why do we feel like we won't land any linemen in the next week? Who said we are done for this cycle?

A week ago we had no idea who any of these portal targets were.

I share some of your anxiety, but haven’t we already missed the window to get more dudes for spring practice?

Why not wait till fall camp to make that determination?

Good deal. SIAP, but do you know when that closes?
Currently in a Winter mini-term. Spring term starts January 22nd. So I can't remember when cut-off date is, but it'll be near the end of this month.
