'21 NC OT Diego Pounds (Ole Miss)

I don't think it's that they "don't like" what they have so much as they're unsure of what they have and if they'll be ready. If they "don't like" what we have, that's a huge red flag on Elarbee because most of what's left is guys he's recruited or brought in through the portal. I think it's more uncertainty.
How many of our young OL were pushed into the portal? That should be a clue.

I think it's both. They whiffed on an entire class, the 2023 class is still a relative unknown, and the incoming freshmen are a complete unknown as of yet.

Suffice to say, if we hadn't convinced Mays, Campbell, and Spraggins to return for another year, we'd have been majorly screwed. The question now is finding depth. Perhaps Vysen Lang can play LG even though he's the penciled in heir to Mays at Center. Andrei Karic is beloved by Elarbee for some reason, but hasn't really wowed and has struggled to stay healthy. And then you have to hope Umarov can compete for the RT spot. Even then, our depth is super thin. Even more so in terms of experienced depth.

This is true, but why has AP been hinting that a few of our younger guys aren’t likely to be future contributors? Some will say he just doesn’t know what he’s talking about, but I don’t believe that at all.

Nobody is saying that…however like any roster in college football there will be two or three non contributors that get shown the door at some point and get replaced…it’s January so the roster isn’t set by any means wait till Fall to tell us the staff has failed…

Yes they are. But I don’t know why it would indicate that the staff has failed. That seems a bit extreme

AP did say “so much dead weight” last week. Flip side, VQ staff picked Bussell, Lang and Umarov as guys most likely to play next year on last week’s pod.

Because haven’t you seen the SI headline “Kirby/Saban deemed to be failures due to large numbers of recruits being shown portal”.

obviously if it applies to them it must applied to the UT staff that is in their first full year of recruiting without the cloud of NCAA penalties hanging over their head.

The concern is that the youngsters aren't ready to run with the big boys in this league yet. If that's the case, we will be hoping to grab a tackle after spring ball. That means a new lineman will have just the fall camp to learn the system, get used to the pace and develop the timing that's so critical for the OL. Tall order to say the least. Can't believe we're in this position at this point in Heupels tenure. And yeah, I know the fall out from Pruitt's time hurt and this years OL class looks good on paper, but last years class is in Heupel and Ellarbee. Plus they've had ample opportunities in the portal and apparently have failed to take advantage. Incredible.

Odds are SOME won’t contribute, till he says all or most it is business as usual. We have been successful with unknowns before.

But the fact that none were winked out the door like the DB’s is telling.

Remember, we got 3 guys to return rather than gamble we could bring in someone better. I like some of the 2024 recruits. Just like I did 2023. As for 2022, Nichols and Clipper already transferred out. We need to find some contributors in a hurry.

Do you ever get tired of posting the same drivel in recruit’s thread? Guess it gives you the attention you desire. By the way, what forum has the majority of your posts since you seem to be relatively recent RF poster?

And it's sad we had to that because we have no one ready to step up. Wonder how many of our OL would start for bama, UGA, Texas or OU? Even Mincey couldn't crack the starting lineup at UF. I'll be curious to see how many get drafted or get a roster spot in the NFL

If they produce for UT, why does it matter if they’d start at other schools?

So what is your point? The staff needs to fill holes they can’t worry about missed practice in the spring…should we complain about missed practice I am confused?
The point is, our staff has problems closing portal guys. It's pretty obvious.
