N.C. is a pretty good state for talent for sure. Just spread out around the state and not all on these Bufords, Miltons, etc so they don't get as much attention it feels like. Only school like that has been Providence Day. Now obviously you have really good programs that pump out great talent like Grimsley, Hough, Myers Park, etc tooNorth Carolina is such an underrated state for talent.
Grimsley will finish the season ranked in the top 25 Nationally. Deservedly so. But there’s a team in Fayetteville (Fayettniem nicknamed) NC that maybe just as good as Grimsley. Seventy First HS is 15-0 and about to play West Charlotte for the 3A Title next week. But 71st has THREE 1,000 yard rushers. 1) a 6’2 260 lb HB. 2) a 6’2 220 lb QB 3) a 5’11 210 RB that’s being recruited by Ole Miss for 2026.
I lived in North Carolina for 4 years. And if North Carolina had the coaching, and community support that some of these programs out here in California have, you would have 10 programs all from North Carolina ranked in the Top 50 imo.
So much talent out there. Glad we’re locked into that state. Screw belichick
Grimsley quarterback Faizon Brandon went full Thanos in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A football championship game, at some point deciding enough was enough and he’d do it himself. Brandon threw for three touchdown passes and rushed for another in the 35-23 win over Rolesville at UNC's Kenan Stadium on Friday.Brandon lead my former Alma mater Grimsley High School to the State 4A Championship tonight with 3 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdowns.
So no grey area? A kid can be elite in high school, and take time to develop into an elite college player. He’s elite right now, but the competition is like 10x up when he gets to Knoxville but he’s got all the tools to become elite. What you said sounds good but pretty shallow way of thinking. He's either elite or he's not, who he's playing in high school does not really matter. Very few kids are ready to walk right into the SEC and play as freshmen.
Interested how he does next year. He will have to be the guy with Mitchell Summers goneI can tell you the competition he faced in HS was solid. You had a team from Charlotte Mallard Creek that didn't win their conference go on the road short notice and beat Archbishop Moeller. Same team beat Prince Avenue Christian and hung with Grayson. Hough beat them twice. Wasn't close. Hough narrowly lost to RH Northwestern SC state champion. Grimsley beat Hough in the playoffs. They beat Weddington. They beat Rolesville twice. Roseville probably had more overall talent than anyone in the state.
Be that as it may, the SEC is a big step up. I don't know how that will go. But, he's definitely seen some competition at the HS level. And he has one more year.
