'26 NC QB Faizon Brandon (Tennessee commit)

You guys sleepin' on Merklinger, i'm tellin' you. Dude is a dude, has wheels too.

Will compete for starting job when Nico leaves.

I’m not sleeping on him. I think he can compete lol I just like GMACs and Faizons game better

See I’m the opposite, I don’t think GMac ever sees the field as a starter here.

I think Merk takes over once Nico leaves.
It's a good problem to have. Battle of which of the two great QB prospects will take over before Faizon is ready lol...Best case is Faizon is ready to go as a RS Freshman, and one of the other two is drafted as a Day 1 pick.

I understand people’s problems with GMAC, I just think he personally has a higher ceiling that hopefully coaches can get out of him. But yeah like poster said, it’s a good issue to have. Merk and GMAC battling it out is a lot better than peterman and Worley lol

Texas was able to keep Manning for two years with only spot play his second year. I think we should be able to do the same with our QBS. Have to let them learn the system and mature mentally and physically.

If we can prove this is the best route to get our guys to the NFL with the biggest paycheck and least wear & tear. . . just prove it once and it should be easy to keep bringing in top QBs in the same path.

Someone fill me in on this…I see Jared Curtis as a 5* in state guy yet we went all in on the Brandon instead…I’m not questioning this at all…I honestly don’t know the history…can anyone give me cliff notes on how this unfolded?

One could assume Heup liked Brandon’s skill set more than Curtis

Not sure if serious. This was talked about quite a bit. CJH liked Brandon better for his long term development. The feeling is that they are in much different places in terms of reaching their ceiling. Jared is very old for his grade. He developed physically very early. Very good player that some coaches think doesn't have tons of room to grow/develop in college. Brandon has tons of room to grow/develop and has a #1 QB in the draft ceiling.

I am serious…I figured some might feel this way about my post…I appreciate your summary and it makes perfect sense…I never doubted the evaluation by our staff I was just curious about the history and didn’t feel like doing the research on my own

We have had basically the exact same prototype QB since HH, or some iteration. Any and all can play ball, even Merk who is like an inch shorter.

Go get TK.

Arch Manning comes from a legendary family that didn't need to chase a bag early. He can play the long game. Other kids won't do the same. They want to get to the NFL bag ASAP. So you're outta your mind if you think other 5-star QBs will sit for 2 years. After Year 2 most will transfer out if they're not starting. That's why it's not a bad strategy to do what we're doing right now which is going all-in on elite 5-star QBs once every 2-3 years. That way by the time Nico is leaving after 3 years another 5-star will be coming in as a freshman.

The days of thinking you can stack 5-star QBs until their junior years are long gone. Nowadays it's a maximum of one year learning then being able to play by Year 2 before guys start looking elsewhere. Arch is the exception not the rule.

I didn’t watch Merk or Gmac so I have no opinion. What makes you believe Merk is better?
I think Merk will have a better grasp on the playbook and in the very limited time we’ve seen him play, he’s looked smooth.

GMac will need at least a year minimum to gain weight and learn the playbook, sure Nico did it, but he was around 10 pounds heavier. If I’m being brutally honest, I think GMac is a contingency plan in case Merk leaves.

When the time comes, are you gonna start:
- Merk RS Soph
- GMac RS Fr
- Faizon Fr

I personally think you RS Faizon and start Merk….see how he does for the first few weeks.

There’s also the chance Nico comes back and Faizon just starts once Nico leaves.

In 2026 we play Nebraska and we will probably play Texas. Nico vs Raiola and Nico vs Arch are both marquee QB matchups

Yeah Brandon is about two years younger than Curtis despite being in the same class, and is more physically gifted.

We only think GMac is a contingency plan because he’s fell in the ranking(still ranked higher than Merk). At the time of his commitment he was a 5 star QB that we desperately wanted to beat out Saban for. Merk was the guy that had enough balls to follow Nico. We will see how it plays out.

Some people discount GMac bc his team wasnt good. Why wasnt he able to play all positions?
