Dont know about max prep honors. One cousin was All State in both football and baseball about 3 years ago and signed with Carson Newman. The other cousin (brother to the one I mentioned) is an upcoming Senior RB that is a heckuva player as well.
Coaches may have liked those other guys better and don't care about recruiting rankings. Just a guess.
Thats fine and dandy but dont tell us/kids that we will be in the top 10 recruiting classes. Getting .83 guys and guys that arent even rated isnt going to get us there. I understand ranking arent everything but it is when you are trying to be in the top 10.
You sound personally offended by a report that the coaches may have liked other players more than this one. You asked a question that had a pretty obvious answer. Why ask if the answer was just gonna make you mad?
Not mad but would love for someone to explain the logic behind this. You only stated the obvious without helping me understand how a player like mumphrey can outplay howell or what possible upside there is to getting a player like mumphrey over howell.
I'm not a coach nor have I seen any of them play so I could only guess. Maybe its something about technique or footwork. Or maybe they don't like his size. Maybe its intangibles. I don't really know but they didn't seem to think he was good enough to fight for at this point and they don't seem like idiots so there is likely some reasonable explanation that we won't know at this point. Helton seems to have a good track record with QBs though. Maybe it backfires but if they feel like they can get a better qb than Howell then I think that's a good sign. Or I guess they could be dumb, I just don't think their history indicates that.
Apparently a couple of programs cooled on him because of concerns about his height. Read he checked in at 6'0 on UF visit. Kid is a baller that has up 10,000 passing and almost 2300 rushing. You take a kid who can do it with his arm and legs. Guys like Drew Bres, Chris Leak and Russell Wilson are all under 6'1 and were successful in college.

I get QBs wanting to see what our offense will look like, but what exactly does that have to do with our staff not being able to set a pecking order for the QBs they want?
Granted, I dont think this class is that great at QB (especially considering how good last years was). But how have they not made at least a rough ranking of the guys they like and really gone after one yet?
Seems odd if true.
