Quavaris Crouch, the 6-foot-2.5, 230-pound four-star athlete out of Charlotte, N.C., signed with the Vols on Friday, the final day of the Early Signing Period. He picked Tennessee over Michigan and Clemson. He’s the 19th name to sign with head coach
Jeremy Pruitt and Tennessee during the early period and becomes the second-highest rated signee in the class, trailing only five-star offensive tackle
Wanya Morris.
Crouch’s former coach and current mentor, Sam Greiner, told GoVols247 at the time that the visit solidified Tennessee’s standing among the final three and gave the Vols “a legitimate shot” at landing him.
“We talked about it, and I kept reminding him that the first time he went there earlier, all he did was rave about Tennessee,” Greiner said of Crouch. “There’s something special about that, and I said, ‘Don’t lose sight to what your first feeling was, Quavaris.’ And he says, ‘Yeah, you’re right.’ I said, ‘You definitely need to go check out a visit and go there.’ "And he went there this weekend and he got all those butterflies again, like he got that one time when he went before.”
“I feel like they’re building something pretty good,” Crouch said. “And you can be a part of it, like Pruitt says. I feel like they could be building something, so this season will play a role in seeing where they’re going to be at and stuff like that. So that’s why I’m still keeping them in it.
“I like them. You see the history of Tennessee. You look at that, and I feel like it’s a good culture at Tennessee — the culture of the school. I just feel like they could be up to something. “(Pruitt) didn’t leave ‘Bama for nothing. He’s been by
Nick Saban. He knows something. It’ll be interesting.”
