Clemson plays against NC State and their 3-3-5 defense every year. I would expect then to do well. Our defense shut NC State down. The issue is that we did struggle with NC State until that pick 6 TD and they kind of folded. Clemson's offense looked like world beaters going up 28-0 in 1st quarter today. However, Georgia shut down Clemson's offense.
It does happen. UCLA, in 1989, was coming off of a 10-2 season, including a Cotton Bowl victory. In the season opener, the Cobb-Webb tandem ground them into dust, and UCLA finished the 1989 season 3-7-1.
We did it to Ol Miss baseball in 2022. Embarrassed the number 1 ranked team at their home. They looked like crap for over a month before the got their confidence back and won it all.It does happen. I also realize that OK won those games and did not have to show any of their offense. They saved everything they had for Tennessee. I thought CJH called the perfect game and protected our players as best he could.Oh dear, BVS rears it's ugly head. Even if we played high school teams, the fact that we beat the teams we did play exactly the way we should have. Out gained by almost 1000 yards ans out scored by well over a hundred. Please don't forget that Oklahoma played a schedule nearly as weak as ours and barely won. Houston is ranked 85th and Old U beat them by 2 points. Tulare actually outgained them. Trying to find something to wring your hands about hours before the game will make it hard for you to enjoy it. The main people who would not take a 1 point win are gamblers worried about the spread.
We would NOT have dropped by winning by 3 points on the Rd vs a top 15 team at night. We would have moved up winning by 3 or by 20.Agree...if we happen to lose today, or win in a close game, we'll drop in the polls for sure.
Hiw much only depends on if it's a loss or close win.
A loss and we'll be lucky to stay top 15.
Close win and we'll be happy to remain top 10.
FWIW - we win tonight and I think we crack top 5.
Kinda doubt it. I think they were already broken before the season started given the way they struggled with the teams before (Western Carolina) as well as the teams after (Louisiana Tech, Clemson, Northern Illinois, and now Wake Forest). We broke them.
