NCAA Baseball Postseason Thread

I don't totally disagree with what you are saying. However, I'm not sure UT Baseball fans, that rank in the bottom of the league in attendance and really haven't been good at Men's anything should be the ones perturbed. We should probably get our own house in order before criticizing a program at the CWS...just saying...

I'm referring to the entire AD, not just baseball. But in regards to baseball, they have the worst fan support of anyone, outside of Vandy, when it comes to Hoover, despite coming in as top 3 seed practically every year.

If Tennessee was putting the caliber clubs on the field that Florida has, the people would be there.

There are Florida people that "care", but how do we define care.

They don't care enough to fill the park. They certainly don't care enough to travel.

I don't feel bad that we aren't as rabid as the LSU folks. That's a whole different fan base. But, Florida's fan support (considering the product they have to support) is really sad. It bothers me.

Not everyone has the money to do stuff. I don't. But, Florida has a large alumni base and is a heavily populated state. Surely, you'd think a few thousand people can show up for home regional games. And a few folks could make it out to Omaha.

I would argue the small town affect of G'ville might hurt basketball during the week and perhaps baseball, where folks have to stay over night all weekend, due to travel. It's hard to drive 4 hrs round trip from Tampa on a Wednesday night for a basketball game vs Knoxville where it's a metro area of 500k or Baton Rouge for baseball. But MSU and Ole Miss kind of debunk the baseball argument when those towns are a 1/5 the size of Gainesville and miles from anywhere.

Like I said, I don't disagree. It's surprising, not just with UF, but VU too. I also agree that if we were winning like UF, VU, LSU etc...that Vols fans would come out...but we aren't, hopefully we will, but we aren't and I don't think it's right, even though it's surprising, to consider criticizing another fan base when you are as far away as possible from either performing at that level on the field and/or currently 13th in attendance in a 14 team league.

Why can't you criticize a fan base's apathy just because your own is apathetic? If UT was playing in their 6th CWS in 11 yrs I'd hope to goodness we could muster up more than 1500-2000 fans by the 6th one. If we couldn't, I'd call us apathetic and pathetic as well. I didn't make it to Hoover this year but have been the last 4-5 years. During last year's title game, aTm had more fans than UF despite being 3x further away.

Basketball is very hit or miss. With the success of that program the O'Dome should've been able to sell out a 20k seat arena but no way it would've have. The renovations last year actually decreased seating. Granted Thompson-Boiling arena is probably too big, however over the last 5 years alone the O'Dome couldn't hold our avg attendance and we've been terrible. Meanwhile, UF is coming off like 3-4 Elite 8's and has been outdrawn by UT by roughly 5k per game.

Basketball support hasn't matched the on-court product, but it's not horrible.

Baseball is sad considering how elite the program is. Women's softball feels like it has better support.

You know what the main complaint is with baseball.

It's too hot.

You live in Florida and it's too hot. Nevermind it's hot every damn day of the year. There's no shade and so it's too hot.

I guess since they draw around twice what we draw during the regular season and rank 7th in the SEC, while we rank 13th, I just don't think it seems fair to criticize them.

If your point is that we have greater fan support for basketball, even though there's no reason for it, other than UT fans show up regardless of whether the team is any good, well...

This is not the case in baseball and I don't think I can positively say that folks would drive out to Omaha in the numbers that LSU fans would/do...

As I said, I don't really disagree with the assertion that it's a head scratcher why more UF fans don't care about sports other than football even when they are doing well...I just don't think we are really in position to throw stones at this point, that's all.

Like I said, I'm criticizing their support across all sports. It's just frustrating that a mediocre fan base is constantly rewarded with resounding success in all major sports. I won't disagree that we wouldn't have 15k fans in Omaha but I have little doubt we'd have a solid following if we were on a UF like run.

Well, I guess their "mediocre fan base is constantly rewarded with resounding success in all major sports", has more to do with their administration's commitment than ours.

I think, regardless of results, if a program is top 10 nationally in attendance, that ain't so bad...So, I give us kudos in both men's and women's basketball, football and softball, but some perspective is required...UF Baseball is 10th nationally in attendance.

While you may believe they should be doing better, there's about 300 schools, including ours, that could be doing better as well.

I'm not sure I agree about UT supporting baseball because from what I remember we weren't even filling up LN under Delmonico when we made 3 CWS in 10 years.

Foley only hires up and comers, he refuses to go out and spend large money on established guys but he seems to hit the jackpot on every single one of them. Their facilities are severely lacking in all sports and recruits and coaches have said as much. Their success can be attributed to being in a populated, talent rich state and a state that out of state kids like to come to. It's easy to draw kids in despite the shortcomings.

By the way, it's not just the way I feel. Clearly 99, perceives there to be a lack of support as do many of my UF alumni friends. I went to one of their Super Regionals vs Miami when I was down visiting friends and we walked up after the game started and had our pick of tickets from the ticket office. Im sure that scenario would play out at UT as well but not at many successful baseball schools.

Was in Vegas last week and for Father's Day bought my Dad, also a Gator, a $50 ticket on the Gators to win it. He's picking up $300, so that's pretty sweet.

The Gators women's basketball team needs to get their stuff together. The football, men's basketball, softball, and baseball teams have all won National Championships, and they've only made an Elite 8.

I was shocked when Florida won a men's basketball title. Never thought I'd see that.

When Florida women's basketball wins a national title, it's time to prepare for the end of days.

Congrats 99 and Law, happy for KOS, now ya gotta keep Ray Tanner away from yer coach, can't believe he'd leave but it's the silly season....seriously, congrats!

Thanks! It's nice to see them finally put it all together at the right time. So often it has seemed like they spent all they had to get there, then just flamed out.

We need Joe Alleva to say something mean and disrespectful to our women's basketball team.

Very happy for the Gators. Their fans must have been getting restless after going about two weeks without bringing home a national championship in a collegiate sport.
