NCAA Baseball Postseason Thread

The higher seed is earned. I think the higher seed should be the home team in every game.

Higher seeds are not necessarily earned. Some are. Some are awarded. UCF was a 2 seed. TnTc was a 4 seed. UCF went 0-2. TTU went 1-2 with a win over FSU and two well played losses to auburn and FSU. Davidson (only 3 Schollies offered by school). Bethune. DBU. A&M. NCST. SHSU. Auburn. All lower seeds making a good showing. system is fair allowing all teams to have home bat. It's not like its a season home game. They are hosts to regionals.

Have you talked to many players who have played for him?

Must be your players hate Bragga jab. They can transfer. But they don't. Must not be too bad there. He's been there 14 years now, and the snowflakes haven't done him in.

Don't get me wrong. I like old school and he's there to win games not friends. I don't think he is a viable candidate for the UT job tho.

I disagree on the seeds. UCF played a tougher schedule and earned the 2 seed. However, at this time of the year, Tennessee Tech was the tougher group......probably due to playing for an old school coach!! Tech had a great year and a good run in the tourney.

I wonder, though, after watching TnTc compete so well in the regional, why do they only schedule UT and Vandy as non conference Power 5 opponents. I get that term is different in baseball than football. Belmont is no push over, but is conference. Lipscomb is non conference but not the same program as they were in NAIA and that HC for so long. Lipscomb probably put out more MLB talent when they had the old coach and in the NAIA. Certainly had more championships. OVC is not too shabby. But, they showed they can compete. And they are massive long ballers at that. The pitching was stellar compared to what one probably expected. I thought they had a great chance to slide right into the regional finals. Just couldn't close it. They faced better pitching, but i still thought we'd see one explosive game from them. They averaged 8 ppg during season. And that probably comes from lack of playing more top programs. Doesn't have to be alot of SEC teams per se. But, they could beef up their NC schedule. They got nothing to be ashamed of in Tallahasse, but they could be better. And they certainly could've dark horsed right into the supers. Would've took some major offense. FSU pitching is very deep. Probably too deep for Auburn as well.

I don't disagree about the UT job. Out of his range in several ways. I don't disagree about him being old school. I favor that. I think its good for the kids. Players gripe about coaches like that, yet they stay. Outside of needing a talented pitching coach, he gets as much out of that roster as a whole as one could in his arena. If TnTc was your best offer, you'd better appreciate it and work hard instead of complaining about playing for the guy. Too much of the non old school in the overall college atmosphere these days. Tech baseball is fun, and free, local baseball entertainment. and if you can suffer through a football game it's only $10.

Bragga is probably not interested in another job unless Tech for some reason let him go. He and his dad have a lock on that program. He just got a bye for a few more pressure free years. And they showed well enough to get some attention if a good overlooked player is trying to find a home.

Lipscomb has done very well in the last decade. A couple of ASUN championships and three players have made the big leagues. They also have two high draft prospects this year. The ovc absolutely sucks.

Missouri state proves once again they are one of the best programs in the nation. Who was it that argued with me here two years ago they weren't worthy of elite status?

If Kentucky's program can be 3 outs away from a super regional berth, there are zero excuses as to why UT can't be a competitive baseball program. Zero excuses.

Six SEC teams remain after Regionals. Vanderbilt always seems to figure it out in the postseason regardless of their regular season. Super Regional appearances in 6 of the last 8 seasons.

Kentucky surprised me by coming back and winning their Regional but the new coach has been a huge breath of fresh air to that program. Maybe we can find one similar.

I hope we can too but it looks like we are heading towards the same stale brand of coaching that we have had. Alabama just kicked our rears by hiring an up and coming star even though we had a large head start.

TN athletics are second tier, plain and simple.

I have a feeling Vandy takes the series from OSU. OSU played absolutely nobody this season outside of Stanford and Zona and both of them proved the PAC 12 is not very good this year. Vandy will be their toughest test to date IMO and Vandy is built well for a 3 game series.

Who will Vandy throw on Sunday, if it goes that long?

In theory, I agree. And i had them penciled in to take OSU. I only changed my mind because the super is going to play at OSU. Otherwise, i would pick Vandy in an "upset." (I still might change my mind back. Vandy has a real shot at taking that super).

True. OVC not great. Including baseball. Which is why Tech should be beefing up their non-conference. They might have stolen a second game if they were experienced in grinding a game out. Especially since they held their own in those games. Big difference in belting over 100 HR on the season and averaging 8 rpg, and grinding out a low score game against an elite team.

Tough call.

It's true OSU had a weak schedule and an even weaker non-conference schedule. It wasn't until they played Yale twice over the weekend that they got up to ten games against RPI 1-50 teams. The average SEC team has more than 25.

But it's also true that 52-4 shows an astonishing level of consistency, and OSU has incredible pitching.

At home, I lean toward OSU. But a Vandy win wouldn't be astonishing.

How's that for sitting on the fence?
