NCAA Baseball Postseason Thread

Tough call.

It's true OSU had a weak schedule and an even weaker non-conference schedule. It wasn't until they played Yale twice over the weekend that they got up to ten games against RPI 1-50 teams. The average SEC team has more than 25.

But it's also true that 52-4 shows an astonishing level of consistency, and OSU has incredible pitching.

At home, I lean toward OSU. But a Vandy win wouldn't be astonishing.

How's that for sitting on the fence?

Sounds like a definite maybe?:)

I texted my brother last night the same thing I posted and he said you can't ignore 52 wins regardless of schedule, it's just so impressive. I agree with the consistency part. It shows they don't have many off days and even if they do they're good enough to overcome it, but the lack of top 50 competition makes very leery of how good they really are.

Oregon State is very, very good. I do agree that their schedule is suspect and their record would look very different if they played in the SEC.

They kind of remind me of the 2013 Vanderbilt team that went 26-3 in the SEC, looked nearly unbeatable, but then ran into a buzz saw in the super regional that year against Louisville. Vandy was more than talented enough to win, but Louisville got excellent pitching at just the right time and won the series in two games.

Vandy has two guys that are capable of that kind of performance on a given weekend. The other thing the Dores have going for them is that they won't be intimidated. The juniors have been to Omaha and all the way through the title series. The seniors have done that twice and have a ring as well. I don't think the stage will be too big for them.

The new hitting lineup is clicking and the pitching depth has finally come around a little bit beyond the first two starters.

On the other side of the coin, this team has lacked a killer instinct this season. We didn't sweep anyone all year and failed to put games away. That absolutely can't happen against Oregon State. If they beat you straight up that's one thing, but Vandy can't let them off the mat if they have an opportunity to put it away.

I think this is the most interesting matchup of all the super regionals, with the possible exception of Louisville vs. UK just from the in-state atmosphere perspective.

UK's season is done, Louisville advances...good year for UK, great job by their new coach.

UF and Wake Forest going at it now...

U of L's pitching staff pretty much dominated a very good UK line up. Neither game was really that close. However, I will say, UK suffered by having to use Hjelle in the regional final and this threw off their entire rotation for the series and he wasn't sharp today.

But, this weekend, the Cardinals were the better team.

UF was up 1-0, T9, WF dude hits a solo shot to tie the game...WOW! 1-1, B9

That 'dude' happened to be Ben Breazeale...Blount countian that played at Pigeon Forge HS and was not recruited by TN. These are the kids that Coach V has to get from here on out.

While we were recruiting catchers from FL and CA, like 3/4 of the people on this forum want us to recruit, we let two studs (Cottom & Breazeale) leave the State!! I loved Coach V's answer about his recruiting strategy during his press conference. TN Kids do care more for this program...the Benito Santiago jrs of the world don't care as much. Saw that this year for sure.

I do not know the answer but did Seranno recruit these kids you referenced?:loco:

I hope you don't include me in your formula there...I said just the other day we need to put a fence around East Tennessee...we can work out from there. I think it's fine to have respect for Corbin, but we can't just throw our hands in the air and let these guys come in here and take our kids.

CTV has roots in other areas, that's great, use them, but we have to get east Tennessee, I believe that.

I know the de-committed player is from the mid state, but we ought to challenge Corbin, he's a 2020 kid, we have time.

So much for Vandy's pitching. Wright getting rocked.

Honestly he was doing fine. Three mistakes in the field cost him. Has settled down since.

This is the story of his season though. For whatever reason he often gets little to no run support and gets let down in the field. Probably should've had 10 wins or more based on how he pitched. You guys saw that in person earlier this season.

He's like Vandy's version of Hunter Martin. The better he throws, the wierder ways there are to lose.

Still, you can't make a mistake to the same guy who hit a homerun last night.

No, for sure not you. I was commenting about all of the banter we were hearing a few months ago about TN needing to stock the team with kids from CA, FL Tx etc. I know you get it.

Another year ending in underachieving for Vandy. This time the entire year the results didn't match the talent.
