NCAA follows the NBA's lead by announcing that Student-Athletes will be Allowed to Wear Social Justice Statements on their Uniforms

Be honest. Beyond the number, how much time do you *really* spend looking at the jersey?
I look to see who the player is if I don't know the number, or in close up of players you'd see it. Not the end of the world but just a little more bombardment of divisiveness.

Sounds like you're making an argument in favor of the notion that it is asinine to put messaging on the jersey. What purpose could it possibly serve? How much awareness will it raise? Goose egg. It is all just more virtue signaling sack strokery.

I agree.

What I don't see is an argument as to why it shouldn't be allowed.

Nobody is trying to say it shouldn't be allowed. Just that it does not improve the product, and if anything makes a large segment of the potential audience dry heave because they are so god**mn sick of all the political grandstanding in every tiny sliver of daily life. Knock it the f*** off! Can't we just have fun without it turning into some super serious political discussion?

I still don't see how it detracts from the fun.

Maybe it just depends on the personal beliefs of the viewer.

Exactly. If you feel like black lives matter is a ******* sham organization (which it is, and is based off of a complete fabrication of hands up don't shoot) it doesn't feel great to implicitly support it just to be somewhat amused by a basketball game, thus taking away from the fun. It also isn't fun to watch a bunch of genetically gifted millionaires pretend that they are oppressed because of their skin color. It doesn't enhance the product, and for a lot of people, it makes it less fun.

Sorry it makes it less fun for you. I'm going to still watch and enjoy the game. Last night for example... what a great game in Lakers/Clips. Came down to the wire and the stars showed up. Sure there was a kneeling ceremony. It didn't distract me from enjoying a great kickoff to the bubble.

Who wins here?

The NBA especially has made it clear they don't want conservative white men watching their games. If you haven't already, turn the channel and just don't watch it.

Watch away. They've tailored the experience just for people like you. So I guess you win? I don't really see how this can be a win for sports long term though. But who knows. Maybe they'll tone down the bullsh*t or maybe I'll just swallow the sh*t sandwich and watch anyway. But right now, in this point in time, I'm not inclined to watch.

No, your name is your name. Not a lot of room for negotiation there .

I'd bet you're from the everyone gets a trophy generation and thus likes this.
I was kind of thinking the same thing.

Several want "BLM" on the back. Several others want "All Lives Matter". This could definitely go sideways for teams, and the coaches will be hog-tied to try to handle it.

We all know certainty n phrases are not allowed. There will be no “white lives matter”, “all lives matter” or “blue lives matter.” Why? Because freedom of speech and expression only applies to those who are engaging in the status quo.

People like me? People who aren't triggered by a 30 second display?

Sure. Lol.

There's no **** sandwich to eat here.

Feel free to name any players who would want any of that on their jerseys.

No, people like you who aren't bothered by implicitly supporting the cause being advertised. I've laid it out for you. It isn't about being triggered by seeing a display. It is about not wanting to implicitly support something you don't agree with. That's it. And going ahead and watching at this point would be ingesting a sh*t sandwich. I'm hungry! We've been in a sports famine! I may just have to eat the only thing on the menu, which happens to be basketball with a large dose of cringe.

I don't see how I implicitly support it. I don't buy anything from them, and advertisements don't determine my purchases. I'm fairly static in my recurring consumerism.

No. Again what’s wrong with saying you are proud to be white, support the police or think that everyone’s lives matters? The NBA and it’s poster boy are a complete joke.

Well, white pride is a sentiment that is almost exclusively expressed by white Supremecist and Neo-Nazi groups, for starters.

Supporting the police is your prerogative, but it's absolutely a department steeped in corruption and abuse that results in injustice in the name of the government, so good luck finding support for that in a predominantly black sport.

All lives matter is a gross misrepresentation of what the sentiment of "black lives matter" (the statement, not the organization) means. I'm not gling to explain it to you because it's easily researched in less than 1 minute and you have no interest. You gave that away when you asked "what's wrong with white pride?"

So me saying I am proud to be white equates to me being a white supremacist or Nazi. Ah yes police are bad because some blacks people think so. Classic ridiculous conflation about black lives matter. Problem is black lives only matter to certain ones depending on what the political climate is.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being proud to be white, supporting law enforcement or saying all lives matter. Saying otherwise shows ignorance and that you are in favor of people not being able to voice their opinions freely.

Again n the NBA and Leflop have proven themselves as complete jokes. Especially by the way they are basically defending and glorifying China and their horrible labor practices. But back to the point. Do you honestly believe any of those phrases I said would be actually allowed in the NBA right now? If not why?

The NBA is embracing BLM and I'm going to say no on that.

I think this has the potential to open a can of worms regarding what’s permitted to be displayed. If the NCAA or schools disallows certain phrases or names it’s going to cause more grief and potential distractions than it’s worth. But with less games I’m sure ESPN will be happy to have any controversy to cover.
