NCAA Looking to Shorten Games

They could also shorten the games by changing the media time out BS. Do like Nascar and Indy car telecasts and do some ads with Side by side coverage. The game keeps going on a reduced screen at the same time the ads are running. It could be a mixture of Full screen ads and side by side ads during the game.

Most fans don’t have a problem it’s greedy TV and the ncaa just have to mess with things. That’s all, get rid of media time outs and put a Time limit on replay. GBO

Either you can get up, or we are putting you on a stretcher 😂 and you need to stay put and don’t come back out lol.. they need to put some moms out there on the sidelines lol
What if we have Moms lasso the injured around the ankle and drag them off the field while riding a pony? Of course, after all necessary medical precautions are taken..

Lol. Are you kidding me?

You’re cutting actual football plays out of the game. There is zero way in hell to actually run as many plays in a game. Some fans have more of an attention span than the average potted plant.

You realize there were no rule changes between Pruitt and Heupel, and yet Tennessee runs FAR more plays under this coach, right? Sure, this rule change would result in a Heupel-based offense running fewer plays but you're still missing the point that all teams are not created equal. GT under Paul Johnson ran among the fewest plays in the country because that offense was run-based and designed to shorten a game. none of that changes here.

As far as the attention span, I'm a huge baseball fan but look at how slowing the game down has affected baseball viewership. They are making rule changes to speed it up, more specifically to keep the action going. You can say what you will about attention span but I'm sorry, I don't want to sit for 4 hours and stare at a screen. I usually don't watch a lot of first half football because it doesn't matter. I can go to a HS game that is technically longer, and the game lasts 2.5 hours. Obviously TV is a part of this and we're not getting rid of commercials but I just don't want to watch these games drag on forever.

Did you watch the Super Bowl? Not enough comeback victories is not the NFLs problem.

It's far easier to score in the 4th qtr in college ball. As for the Super Bowl, the refs took the opportunity for a comeback victory away from us this year

Amen, brother. #1 way to shorten games, but it'll never happen.

Just be thankful we don't have the idiotic pro system with the "challenges" and the asinine red flag.
Well, too bad there wasn't replay for the Gaffney no catch in 2000. They do need to get it right more often and not take forever reviewing things like was it 3rd or 4th down in the Bama game! I was rewatching the Florida game yesterday(I had yet to rewatch it because I was so mad at how they came back) and they couldn't get a Small's TD run up the middle right. You could see his whole body was in and the ball was in front of his body although there was one view of him spinning around leaving the end zone with the ball over the line and crossing back the other way as he was shoved back.....They couldn't see the ball though in other views...After 5 or more minutes and a first down from Napier's penalty, we scored the same way anyhow. Right up the middle from the 1 inch line.

it wasn't until watching games with someone who had never seen a football game that I noticed how different the sport jives from even the 90s. Theres way less mojo to the game now and momentum is much less important. I remembered attending games when they first started with all these tv timeouts with the entire stadium yelling at the TV official to get off the field, screwing the flow of the game up. I miss old football.

The Bama and UF games were both over 4 hours. It's excessive. There's no good reason for a CFB game to take 90 minutes longer to play than an NFL game.

Absolutely, it was getting past my bedtime, so I got up and left both games.

Who is actually complaining that the games are too long? I agree the advertisements are waaaayyy too much, drag time on, and slow down the momentum of the game.......but we all know that NCAA / TV have to make their $$$. I dont remember ANYONE turning off the nearly 4-hour Tennessee vs Alabama game............

Anyone I've ever heard complain about it being too long sits in the living room watching the Real Housewives saturday marathon while me and the dog watch games in the man cave so I'm not sure what college fan is actually complaining........
As far as I can tell, the only people that complain the game is too long are the people that are paid to be there.

only thing I would change is to quit calling a player down if he slips or catches the ball on one knee and doesnt get touched

I'm definitely in favor of this! They need to change it to the NFL rule where if a player goes down untouched he can get up and keep running.
