NCAA Open Jobs Thread

With Tom as Head Coach I think Houston could eventually join the Big 12.

No, sorry. That's not going to happen even if they start having a Boise State - esque run of seasons under him. Unfortunately those moves aren't really based around team records.

Most LSU fans I know think Alleva is a moron, plus the Board of Trustees/Board of Directors (unsure what they call it there) has split into factions battling against each other for/against Miles. Anyone who thinks Jimbo or any other established coach is walking in there with a straight face needs to think twice.

Personnel wise, pretty much a gift from God if you ask me, especially on offense. Defense needs some incoming freshmen to step up and even LSU might need to go to the JC route for some LBs.

The AD has been on the fans crap list for a while, not saying I disagree. The Steele experiment is probably coming to an end very soon regardless.

The only question really is does Les and Cameron join Steele. I probably wouldn't have a problem with a shot at Herman, but Jimbo is probably the safer choice.

Or fire Cameron, fire Steele, hire Herman as OC coach in waiting and keep Les.

I think Herman will stay at Houston because they're about to up his salary

He is getting paid probably less than Cameron or what Chavis was getting paid as assistant coaches last year. IF someone is taking the Les bill well... money is not an issue. Or they can do a coach in waiting situation like Jimbo got. The problem with Herman is his lack of HC experience at a major program.

Ohio's offense looks similar to LSU's... good talent not playing as a team... they didn't look like that last year. If LSU is going to take a chance on a younger guy, I think Herman is the guy.

Houston has put a $3m/year contract on the table to keep him. Doubt LSU pays that for an OC.

There are lots of scenarios that could take place, I don't think they will... I think Steele is gone or should be gone, Miles and Cameron are probably gone, if someone is taking the tab not sure there are many issues. For the record, I don't know if that is the case.

Ask Miles to take a paycut put stay on board, hire Herman coach in waiting, hire a real DC. This is something that should have been done last year. There needs to be a plan for the future one way or another.

Herman to me is a good gamble if you are going for a young guy with limited HC experience, the key here is actually hiring a real DC. I actually have less worries about the offense.

The least amount of points a Herman team at either OSU or Houston has put up is 17. Only 4 loses in 4 years... .although OSU is still putting up good points... its obviously not a well oiled machine they were last year but the personnel are almost the exact same guys.

They are scoring 10 less points and yet the personnel is basically the same and to me their schedule is much better than last year.

Jimbo if they can get him, obviously this is hard one to work, Herman #2, not sure there is a #3... maybe Patterson. Getting a real DC is the key to me but a future HC has to be priority at some point.

If Virginia Tech were able to hire Fuente and keep Bud Foster as DC, VT would have the potential to turn into an absolute powerhouse. As good as Beamer has been, he's never fully exploited the advantageous recruiting situation there. Moreover, outside the Mike Vick years, the offenses at VT have been less than spectacular. Though, sort of scary if we had to face a Fuente / Foster combo next season.

All that said, I have to think someone is able to throw more money at Fuente than VT. Beamer's salary is only $2.5 million. Memphis has already offered Fuente more than that. But if Fuente is more concerned about fit than money, I think VT would be ideal for him.

The AD here at tech is good at making people work for less money. Their basketball coach took a pay cut to leave Marquette to come coach here.

McElwain might lose a couple of assistants

UCF: Per sources, new AD Danny White plans to interview both Geoff Collins and Randy Shannon from Jim McElwain’s staff at Florida. Separate sources believe that Dino Babers is expected to interview as well. We also have been told that Gene Chizik has been discussed as well. As more becomes clear we’ll keep you posted.

Philadelphia Eagles: On SiriusXM today, Adam Schefter was asked if Chip Kelly would return next season and responded by saying, “The momentum and signs seem to be piling up against a Chip return to Philadelphia. I think both sides are sick of each other,” before adding “I just think that Chip Kelly, if given a choice, might be comfortable elsewhere.”

Virginia Tech: Virginia Tech is expected to be the next school to hire a new head coach. Yahoo Sports’ Pat Forde writes, “Word is that athletic director Whit Babcock has his man, and has for a while now, and (Justin) Fuente is that man.”

This is probably the big hire at USC that Collin Cowheard eluded to last week.

UCF should hire Gene Chizik
