6. The successful coordinator who might be awful on his own: He rarely talks to the media, he's never been a head coach, and the side of the ball he coaches is the lifelong calling card of the head man, who is one of the best in the game. Is he calling those plays? Is he developing those players? No one has any idea, but if you hire him, you get two free years of using "He's part of the [More Successful Coach] tree" as an excuse for 5-7.
Sources: Houston?s Tom Herman no longer a candidate to coach South Carolina - Yahoo Sports
Add this to earlier Bruce Feldman report and South Carolina's about to hire Kirby Smart
This doesn't qualify to me as a wow hire that some had talked about
Maryland: Michigan defensive coordinator DJ Durkin has emerged as a strong candidate at Maryland and has met with school officials about their head coaching vacancy, according to Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports. Forde notes that no job offer was made, but the interview went well and that its not clear how many other candidates the school has interviewed, or will interview.
If Jimbo is smart he'll stay at FSU
Because of one bad game against Indiana? Fifth in the nation in yards per carry allowed but yeah it's garbage and I hope Maryland runs in the other direction.
Ohio State-Michigan will be interesting and Michigan has a shot if they can slow down the OSU running game. Do you think Harbaugh will be a candidate for the Colts job? He would be a good candidate.
imo they won't fire Les unless they already have their next coach
Charlie Strong promises players he's staying with Texas Longhorns, says 'I don't run from anything'
Well, if LSU were to go with Jimbo over Les, Texas might want to consider going with Les over Strong. I understand Texas needed to be cleanerd up but 6-7 in year 1 while sitting at 4-6 in year 2 with games remaining against Texas Tech and Baylor, looking like a sub .500 season if odds hold up. Then there's Nebraska who might be even worse when it comes to Mike Riley by only giving him 1 year. Other than the Purdue loss, none of his losses were all that bad. But sitting at 5-6, sadly he may need this win over undefeated Iowa to keep his job after only a year. I think Nebraska has a good shot at pulling the upset. Iowa's record is 11-0 but they're not anymore impressive for the most part other than they pulled out close wins while Nebraska lost close games. Plus, they're big time rivals and the game is in Lincoln.
I hadn't been paying attention to Nebraska..there is talk of firing Riley in year 1 or year zero in Dooley years?
