For those fans that actually ARE interested in Lady Vols softball and what the WCWS is like, there are a couple of new vids on here:
Lady Vol Softball Touches Down in Oklahoma City University of Tennessee Athletics
For the frontrunners looking for a bragging rights forum...I dunno where to tell you to go.
Pretty sure I get to root for my alma mater In any sport at any time without somebody on the Internet sneering at me for being a frontrunner
Well, when a person read so many posts like..."even though it's just women's...." you might see what I mean by that and not take it as a personal affront. It just gets old, V.-after all these years.
I support and cheer for all student/athletes at my alma mater, too. 95% of them work so hard to be the best.
Assuming you're (mostly) talking about women's basketball, people aren't condescending about it because women are the ones playing, but because the quality of play in the sport is so much different than in men's basketball. (I'm sorry, it is -- the UConn women lost their endless win streak against Baylor in a game which ended with both teams shooting three straight air balls.) It has nothing to do with it being women playing. I think you'd see about the same amount of "frontrunning" if the men's baseball team were in the College World Series -- another sport which most Vol fans don't care much about because the quality of play is so much lower than what they're used to watching.
I won't pretend to care about women's softball any more than I would pretend to care about men's diving or men's tennis or whatever. I just root like hell for the kids that go to my school, and when they get a chance to compete in championships that are available on ESPN, I make time to watch. If that makes me a frontrunner then so be it.
