NCAAT thread Day 1

As much as I can't stand Calipari and Kentucky, I can't see Stony Brook winning. Just too much of a talent difference.

If UK loses this will be the upset of the tournament, regardless of seeding IMO. Way too much talent for UK to not have been on the top 2 line. Their record reflects Cal's coaching rather than their talent.

You mean your typical treatment? Y'all have become so blinded you don't think calls in the Bluegrass go the same way as they do on Tobacco Road or in Lawrence.

Oh, I absolutely know we get calls. Definitely in Rupp of course. It's neutral though, and I hope we get the same thing UNC/Duke got.

You're halfway objective; many aren't. I had one UK fan argue with me that the 25 extra attempted FT's by UK in Rupp in 2012 had no bearing on the game. A game UT lost by 20 or so. Didn't know extra attempts didn't affect the game, wonder why we shoot them then? Regarding your initial question; you will.

Sometimes people look at numbers and make assumptions. I don't think it's as terrible as some think it is...but I definitely look at the games and can't complain as a whole.

By the way, UK actually got less free throws at Rupp vs UT this year. That's not to say it was called in UT's favor, but numbers lie there. We just fouled a lot this year.

There's definitely more to it than pure FT #'s but 25 more than an opponent is almost unheard of.

The answer is pretty obvious long term. Better teams shoot more free throws throughout the course of a season because they are better coached.

No one is arguing over a season, that's Duke's claim to fame; we hear it every time someone steps to the line. 25 more FT in a game rarely happens amongst conference foes. The talent and coaching isn't that big of a discrepancy. Duke shooting 25 more FT vs Elon isn't the same as doing it against Wake.

Then again, it could be HOF coaches and brand schools get more calls.

I somewhat agree that it would make Cal look bad losing to a lower tier team while he clearly has more talent. But UK fans honestly wouldn't be that upset. As long as Cal is bringing in #1 recruiting classes and getting them to the NCAA Tournament every year, most of them will be satisfied regardless of how bad or how good of a coach he is.

The necks in Berea must be more patient than in western KY. The postgame call-in show, if they were to lose tonight, would be epic. They'll be jumping into the Ohio River with rocks around their neck.

It's not too far off between Wake and Elon.

But I digress, it's about brand excellence and equity. Also perception, because every time there is a bang-bang charge or non-call for Duke, UNC, UK , etc the masses will comment. The same for football with a not so late shot on Manning or Brady or maybe a questionable PI against a Bama DB. Excellence and equity win, with teams, people and officials.
The challenge is getting there to get those calls.

Which means you have to overcome that natural, intuitive bias to begin with. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Good lord, is Stony Brook the best competition they could give Kentucky for the 1st round? My grandma can play better basketball.

Yeah. It's called playing well and smart.
The rest will take care of it self.

You act like other programs have risen up to get that same kind of treatment. It's the same 10-15 programs, who happen to be the 10-15 best programs historically. One of the few I can think of who isn't a blue blood is UF.

This. I thought cal's seeding rant was dumb given their first game. Stony brook is an easier matchup than Chattanooga.

Cause Calipari thinks the NCAA owes him something when reality, they don't owe him sh*t.
