Nebraska vs. Northwestern

That’s actually what I was thinking, or hoping at least.
It would be interesting. I would think the top 8 schools from each conference merge. Figure out a schedule where you play half of your old conference each year, with a permanent rival for 5 old "ACC" games. Then you have 2 sets of 2 games against the other "conferences" for a 9 game schedule.

No idea how a championship would work.

He would.

iu

Husk by Husk.

I think he’s a dead man walking and he knows it. They’ll be 2-2 going into Oct when Frost’s buy out shrinks. Oct. 1 is against IU at home; it doesn’t help him even if they win. He’s fired, one of the assistants is made an interim head coach and the AD is free to contact anyone he wants to gauge interest. Money won’t be a problem. My guess is Matt Rhule will be their next head coach.

In the Big 8/12, they recruited Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and New Jersey. Nowadays, they seem to be Midwest only. And they are way down the list. The farmboy OL and smash mouth running game has moved to Wisconsin.
Steroid testing is much better now and the BIG 10 doesn't allow Prop 48 recruits. The BIG XII only allowed one Prop 48 player per team and Nebraska was already beginning to slip because of it. The old Big 8 allowed unlimited Prop 48 players.

It will be interesting to see if Nebraska goes after an Urban Meyer type coach to reinvigorate that fan base and potential recruits if they fire Frost during or after this season.
Yes that would be interesting to see Meyer horse laugh in their face.

I would love to see what Chadwell would do there. Idk that anyone can win there with the disadvantage Nebraska is at but he would be the one I would think had the best chance.

Check out this SI article dated 1/15/1996. How prescient is this?

HEADED FOR A FALL? NEBRASKA MAY WIN ANOTHER NATIONAL TITLE, BUT THE DAYS WHEN SUCH A COLOSSUS RULED THE GAME ARE OVER

Overall though, I think the removal of Prop 48, everybody else developing sophisticated S&C programs, etc., explains why Nebraska is not a consistent national power anymore, not why they completely suck. They shouldn't be this bad, even without the tailwinds they used to have.

Honestly, they shouldn't have fired Bo Pelini.
