My UK brethren often have promising ideas, they just do not see them through to fruition. Allow me to expand upon the subject.
The NCAA does not pick on UK, it just isn't plausible. What does happen however, is that certain members of the media can control (have influence over) which stories are reported, and which stories have more light shed upon them.
I know that this story was also broken by the New York Times, meaning it has Pete Thamels stamp all over it, who avidly detests Calipari and UK. The NCAA does not just overnight announce that they are looking into a kid. Chances are, Thamel has a source inside the NCAA that feeds him his information, and chances are also great that he has had this information for awhile now, maybe even before Noel committed.
Now, from his standpoint (and media in general), which sounds more enticing:
"Top undecided college Recruit Nerlens Noel being investigated by NCAA"
or....
"#1 Recruit and recent signee with National Champion Kentucky to be investigated by the NCAA"
This is standard journalism practice, and not only applies to Kentucky, but any high profile program. Because of Kentucky's stature and the shady past of their coach, this will more often than not be the model that is followed.
It just is what it is.
