Netflix password sharing

Not to interrupt the pregnant man/"woke" angle this thread has now pivoted to, but wasn't password sharing one of the main reasons Netflix added a premium subscription plan? I finally upgraded like a year ago. My parents are still on my account, and an extra 10 bucks a month seemed like the least I could do in return for them "subsidizing" my entire childhood + some of my young adulthood.

It seems like Netflix has other issues at this point. Namely, substantial competition.

I might get something else next time. Regardless I can realize just how utterly stupid, moronic, idiotic, sick, and disgusting it is. Guess it’s all about the “science”.
Lol. That show is a comedy, taking place in a fantasy world where men can get pregnant. Its not always as serious as you think. And no I have not watched it, just was curious wtf it was.

Was it always theft or just a convenient and sanctioned way to grow your userbase?

A vast majority of subscribers only want to share with close family. Not cousins…friends of cousins…or friends period. I pay extra each month so 4 total people can use the service. Shouldn’t matter where they’re at.

You are illegally sharing your passwords with people that should be on their own account. That's stealing. Then, you're apparently (according to you) using your daughter's password for another streaming service - also stealing.
Nobody loves you? Is that the problem here?

Password sharing is not the reason they are losing subscribers and doesn’t mean if the ones using someone’s password would subscribe either.

They are losing subscribers because the economy is not good with fuel and food prices were they are. Entertainment dollars is the first cut out of families budget when money gets tight. Add to that the fact that the Pandemic is largely over and people have returned to the office and are not sitting at home watching Netflix when they were supposed to be working. Netflix also shutdown their service in Russia and that was 700k subscribers I think I read. But blame it on password sharing.

Interesting excerpt from the article given our thread discussion. Doesn't seem Netflix wants to go after the "thieving" situations shared in this thread (myself included).

In addition, Netflix will have to tread lightly around defining password sharers to avoid wrongly tagging people as abusers, such as family members temporarily living away from home.

An unwillingness to act against this group of users would probably save millions of people from Netflix’s crackdown — at least to begin with.

“They’ll start with serial abusers,” said LightShed Partners media analyst Rich Greenfield. “If you have 15 people using your account, it’s pretty easy.”

The company also isn’t likely to want its employees mired in disputes about what classifies as a home account and what qualifies as a sub account. Contesting those definitions could get ugly for both staffers and customers, who have up until now seen Netflix as a best-in-class brand.

They’re going to cut their own throats with this and lose more customers than their $2 fee could ever recover. Some people have a home and travel and use their account on the go. Some have a home and a vacation home that’s used year round that they use their account for. The first notice I get about having to pay for a “sub account” I’m out.

I understand. I would be as well as their value proposition doesn't make sense unless I password share.

Unless Netflix reverses course, the article states that Netflix isn't going that route. They are going after supersharers. If people are actually sharing with 15 people (as the article describes), this policy makes sense.

Those of us in this thread (myself, both Butchs, you, etc.) who share passwords which are considered by some as "thieving" are not going to be affected (according to this article). Like the article states, cases like ours would be a nightmare rabbit hole to go down which (to your point) would result in them cutting their own throats.

Doesn’t Netflix already limit the number of devices connected at a given time that’s well below 15?
