I think the main issue here is misinformation.

Yes and I think the media has fueled that. Hell, even the POTUS is responsible for his ridiculous statement about a family enjoying ice cream getting arrested scenario. IMHO, that was a highly irresponsible comment from a POTUS regardless of party.

No, I've heard interviews with fierce opponents and they say that even though the law says "X" we all know it will be "Y". In short, the details of the law don't matter.
