If we have to go the Arkansas route lets do it instead of hiring somebody for the sake of having a coach...I think we have very capable folks to "bump up" until we are able to ink a proved head coach not named Petrino, Strong(went back and looked at Louisville's schedule this year and they have played NO ONE AND BEATEN NO ONE AND MOST OF THOSE GAMES WERE 7-10 POINTS ARE LESS, ONE IN O/T AND GOT DESTROYED, YES DESTROYED BY SYRACUSE, YES SYRACUSE), or Other...by the way not familiar with the Other candidate....must be coaching in Europe right now...

I like Strong, I say this under the assumption that we are not getting Gruden. I would love to have him but I don't see it as possible. I would love to have Patterson as well. I go with Strong because getting him would stick in Florida's craw something awful, and that has endeared him to me slightly. I realize it's not a good measure of a coach but that is the ADs problem not mine. Most anyone we get will be an upgrade.

I'm sick of this hiring coordinators and hoping they turn out to be good head coaches. Smart would be my last choice. Strong still needs another year or two to prove himself as a head coach. He played some cupcakes this year and lost to cuse...he's a big gamble if you ask me. We need a proven HC with a track record of winning. Petrino and Butch are probably some of the best candidates even though they have some baggage. Gruden would be my number one guy though because he is already a house hold name, a Damn good coach, excellent motivator, and would recruit like a beast with minimal effort.

I'm not convinced any of these guys can get us contending for a NC anytime soon, and that should be the expectation at Tennessee.

If we end up with Petrino or Smart, I'm walking away from UT football. Reasons:
Smart - Not a proven HC and I'm tired of the Saban and Bama connections
Petrino - I guess I still value morals and ethics. And even if he ended up here and won, history tells us he'd leave behind a disaster whenever he left.

I understand people wanting to get away from the "Saban/Bama connections". I also understand looking to a winner when hiring coaches. If you want to win, you have to hire winners. If Hart was looking at coaches from Buffalo, Savannah State, and UTC...we would still be complaining because these teams are losers. Bama has been the top of college football. it makes sense teams look to hire away their coaches.
