I like that they are adding food options near the stadium. Back in the late 80s and early 90s when I was able to go to more games, I’d find a place on the strip to grab a bite. Seems like a lot of those places are disappearing now. Don’t want us to get like the lamecocks in Columbia, where there is almost NO option for food if you’re not tailgating.

One thing is for sure, everything changes. You may not like it, but it will change one way or another.

🤷🏻‍♂️
I graduated from UT in 2007, and it seems like all the places I used to go to on the strip are gone now. Places are constantly being remodeled, torn down and replaced, or changing under new ownership. I was just wondering…is it like this at most other major schools at their version of the “strip”. Even though it definitely looks better now, it’s kind of depressing that almost all the places I used to hang out at in college are gone.

Way off topic, but just curious .....

Does anyone else remember going up in the Sunsphere exhibit and seeing a video presentation that included still shots of naked women on a beach?

Every time I was at the World's Fair (I turned 9 years old in 1982), I would ask my parents if we could go up in the Sphere again. My dad would say, "Sure thing!" and my mom and sister would just roll their eyes at each other ,,,, My sister would say, "They just wanna see that woman's butt again."
No...but some of the Aussie girls got naked on the regular that summer...and a couple German girls, too...

AHHHH...one of the MANY Rides I was in charge of at the Fair was the "Sky Ride'...so, it actually EXISTED in that EXACT AREA over 40 years ago...

So how do we make it happen? Maybe Gatlinburg has some lifts it can spare!

I graduated from UT in 1996, but worked in the First Tennessee building on 800 S. Gay St. from 2003-2006. So, I was on Cumberland a lot. There was one location that was Mike and Willy's, Liquid, Bar Knoxville .... The changes on Cumberland were constant. You would get used to having one place around .... and poof, it was gone.

I think the closing of the O'Charley's Sports Grille is when Cumberland Avenue really started to die. I think that 2004-ish.

I think that was in the Australian exhibit, not the Sunsphere. It had rotating scenes from Australia which included a beach with topless chicks and also AC/DC on stage.

Now that Hilton is behind The Graduate Hotels...wouldn't it be GREAT if the hotel was Neyland/Sheilds Watkins Field Themed...with each of the 7 floors being each named for one of the Maxims...rooms that are like the dorm rooms that once were under the East stands...Health Center like the Manning Locker Room...

The only problem I have with this is the height of the condo/hotel. I don't like it being taller than the top of the stadium. Looks out of place and too "industrial".
True ..... but God knows how much they will be able to sell those suites for. Aesthetics aren't driving this bus. Revenue is.

The proposed development include three major components:

  • Entertainment District: Nearly 175K Square Feet. Managed by Brick + Bev, who has experience with a multitude of entertainment districts across the country. (Xfinity Live, KC Live, Ballpark Village Live, Live by Loews, Texas Live, and Live at The Battery, among others.)
  • Parking: Full replacement of G10; additional parking will be added to support the entertainment district and condotel needs (specifically not reducing student parking stalls). The university would identify alternative parking solutions for use if G10 is temporarily offline.
  • Condotel: Full-service Hotel, Rooftop Restaurant & Bar, Pool & Terrace, Conference Center, Lounges, Fitness Center, Hotel Spa—Hartland Hotel Group will develop this aspect of the project. The group developed the Hotel Figueroa, located next to LA Live. It would feature 240 rooms and 60 luxury condos.

I don't want no damn Texas Live!!!

I’m not a big fan of the design, honestly. But this will be a MAJOR recruiting boost for us, imo. I can definitely see how younger generations would go crazy over all the new restaurants, drinking holes and recreational stuff. Gotta get these croots on campus at all costs and this will definitely improve our game day experience since that area is basically a ghost town at this point.

It's tacky as hell, especially considering it'll be a permanent part of the skyline once it's built, and it'll be visible from almost every seat save those on the east lower deck. And it's close in the drawings too, close enough that it'll effectively become part of the stadium experience once complete. This isn't some office building off in the distance, it's right next to the stadium. But of course, no one's supposed to care because "change is good."
