New poll: its Newt's turn ....

I don't know which was worse the Ali G movie (Ali G in da house?) or Bruno.

Slap yourself for me, please...

Just kidding. I realize the movie is dumb as ****, but I love selected parts.

I started typing "The movie didn't make any sense." Then I remembered that one of my favorite movies growing up was Bio-Dome. I realized then that I had no room to criticize, hah.

The hit pieces don't need to be skeletons in the closet (although there may be some), they'll likely be along the lines of this one:

How Romney grew rich by plundering companies - Chicago Sun-Times

McCain was treated with kid gloves until the general election. Then it was "wow, he's so damn old." And "he has no personality, he's so boring." And "hm... his demeanor might suggest racism." These memes aren't destructive in and of themselves but when they're repeated over and over they become nearly impossible to deflect or diffuse.

Now that was some sorry journalism.

CNN Poll: Gingrich soars, Cain drops – CNN Political Ticker - CNN.com Blogs

Cain dropped 11 points in the last two weeks. Majority believes the women accusers and a third of GOP voters think he should quit.

Romney can't do better than 25 %. Ever. Just amazing how he is so flat-lined despite all the upheaval.

And so the only one left is Newt, and he predictably therefore becomes the anti-Romney candidate, with 22 % to Romney's 24 %, effectively a tie.

Wonder what the over/under is going to be for how long Newt can stay up in the top anti- Romney spot? I'll go with 4 weeks, because as soon as Romney sees Newt as a viable threat, the public is going to be reminded of all of his ... excesses.

I'll take that bet. You seem to be implying that Newt's rise in popularity has been primarily as a result of others falling in the polls. While I'm not denying that is a factor, I think most would agree that Newt has also won or performed at the top of every single debate. I'll take Newt with his baggage over Obama any day, and if given the opportunity can't wait to see them head to head in a few debates.

:bump3: Just one more week to go, and Gingrich continues to climb in the polls...

Ron Paul isn't exactly pure as the wind-driven snow. His defense of earmarks is troubling.

Troubling? Like hide the wife and kids troubling? Like take up arms in preparation for the Revolution troubling? Like hurry the kids to the bomb shelter troubling?

We are talking about earmarks, right? Not Suitcase nukes, dirty bombs or open borders... but earmarks, right?

and I thought LG and gs were the masters of senseless hyperbole

I'm not a fan of Ron Paul, period. If I were reading the things he says, I'd be willing to jump on the bandwagon, but when I watch him, I see the crazy uncle that everybody has in their family. His heart is in the right place, but you wouldn't feel comfortable letting him babysit your kids.

OK, if the biggest knock on Paul is him bringing tax money back to his district, then I'll take it.

What are Newt and Romney's biggest flaws?

Speaking of Newt seems the media is running wild with this one..

Newt Gingrich on Thursday told an Iowa audience that children in poor neighborhoods have "no habits of working" nor getting paid for their endeavors "unless it's illegal."

"Really poor children in really poor neighborhoods have no habits of working and have nobody around them who works," the former House speaker said at a campaign event at the Nationwide Insurance offices. "So they literally have no habit of showing up on Monday. They have no habit of staying all day. They have no habit of 'I do this and you give me cash,' unless it's illegal."

That might be harsh, but there are certainly elements of that which are unfortunately true, imo. I was just at a home yesterday helping with a "home makeover" which I have done the past few years. The home itself was in a reasonably nice neighborhood (e.g. good property, reasonably sized homes, etc.), but all of the homes and yards looked "unkept". Overgrown yards, wood rotting in some areas, homes not painted, and such. None of these things really require that much money to fix, just a little effort on the family's part. Generations tend to replicate the environments they grow up in and the culture in which they live... that is the norm. The exceptions are those who do manage to escape the environment they have known through much of their lives.

I love how Paul's ideas are "scary" to people. As if our financial situation isn't scarier than anything Al Qaeda can throw at us. As if a gold standard (which he would/could never accomplish) is scarier than the Federal Reserve currently is.

Ron Paul can deliver my kids, but there's no way he's watching them. I'd totally let Newt watch my kids. That's why I'm voting for him.

Without the illegal part at the end he'd be okay with this comment.

You are right. He had a valid point to make, which is that many children are not shown or do not ever really experience the value of simple, hard work. I got my first jobs at 14 delivering papers and reading water meters. At 16 I was stocking groceries. Sound work ethic as a result.

But he couldn't help himself. At the end he just had to invoke the stereotype of poor black youth selling crack. This is the kind if thing he has to avoid and I just don't think he can.

Back early from your self-imposed vacation.

I had a paper route at 9 and was doing janitorial stuff for the local fitness gym. I was pulling in like $50/week at age 10. It was wealth beyond my wildest dreams. I was totally driven by the dollar.

I don't know what happened to me. Not that I don't have work ethic, but when I get home from my 9-5 I have no drive to do something on the side.

Funny... you're the only one who has made this a race issue. Newt nor anyone else spoke of race. In fact, it is more of a cultural and societal issue. Are you suggesting that black children are the only ones who grow up poor and do things that are illegal?

Please. You know exactly the image he was invoking. He said one parenthetical too many.

Any image that appears in ones mind is 100% based on their own opinions and beliefs, not what someone else may "invoke". For me personally, I can think of numerous neighborhoods (black, white, or hispanic) that would fit the description he provided.

Denial.

I understood where he was coming from about work ethic and considered it a perfectly valid point. But come on, I think even his own supporters had to cringe at that parting comment. It was just unnecessary.
