Well, what the heck. I am going to try to start a new thread that I hope will be exciting for lots of you.

Here's the deal.

Tell us where you have been that most of us have probably NOT HEARD of AND there has to be something REALLY NEAT about that place (Town, county, etc.).

I will start and say that I have been to Saltville, Va. where they have the Museum of the Middle Appalachians and huge salt deposits that were used to serve the Confederacy during the Civil War, and that were later used by Olin Chemical Corporation to make bicarbonate of soda.

Been to or thorugh about 36 of the states in our vacation travels growing up. Been to Great Britain and the coast of France accross the channel. As well as many places in the Phillipines during college summers when dad was working there. But, the neatest for me was in 9th grade in Scotland (our family heritage). We visited an old ruin of a castle called Irquart (sp?) on the deepest portion of Loch Ness. We accumulated the normal pamphlets and such. Upon reading we discovered that the same individual that occupied this castle in yesteryear before his defeat, is the exact same name and historical spelling of the person who we had years before traced our furhterest roots to in a family tree. It just so happened thorugh the centuries, the immigrants of our family first moved into NC and upon purchasing land in Cookeville, TN from Al Gores great great grandfather, we settled what has since been Cummins Falls out in Jackson Co sometime before the civil war, with the original homesite all grown over in the woods, and the old farmhouse I knew still liveable and under construction during the civil war. My parents built their retirement home in the field behind this house. If only that dude hadn't got beat, we could have immigrated as a rich family instead of farmers. Oh Well.

I've been to 47 states, all over Canada and Mexico, the Bahamas and France.

As for somewhere most have not heard of/really neat about the place...

The city of Caen, in the Normandie region of France. My girlfriend and I stayed there for two nights this summer while touring Normandy and the D-Day beaches. Caen was the capitol of William the Conqueror and his castle was there. Our hotel was right across the street from the castle walls. Very cool.

This view in fact. Right across from our tram stop at the bottom:

This photo doesn't do the whole place justice though. It is a HUGE structure that is easily 3-4 times the size of Neyland Stadium if you were to walk all the way around it.

I'll post a few pics of my vacation to Montana...

This is what the majority of Washington and Oregon look like, between the Cascade mountains and the border of Idaho.

But this was my favorite part of the trip. We made a three mile hike with a half mile ascension in Montana, and at the top was a valley with an entirely spring-fed lake and a big meadow full of flowers. It was probably the prettiest place I've ever seen in my liffe.

I loved this lake. Some of the best fishing of my life. Caught a few small ones... But it was mostly the scenery that made it great.

That's where it was at. I spent 7 days out there horsepacking, rafting and fishing.

Oh my bad! I thought some of those looked kind of familiar. Glacier was by far the most beautiful place that I have seen in this country. I also enjoyed the Canyons of Utah.......Bryce Canyon, Red Rock........those are pretty sweet too.

I lived in Kaiserslaurtern, Germany for 2 years. It has the largest concentration of Americans (USA) living outside the country than any other place in the world. The are roughly 50,000 americans.

I have been to both Marion, VA., where Mountain Dew soft drink was started, and Rural Retreat, Va. (Very Small), where the idea for Dr. Pepper soft drink was started. (No pics..., sorry!)
