New Thread

I've been to Lompoc, Calif. where Ferry-Morse grows the flowers for their flower seeds. You can see solid acres of flowers of all kinds and colors. Beautiful!

i got this one

my home, sparta, tennessee. i bet no one has been here.

I have been to Sparta many times. I live in Jackson, TN and we would always take church trips to Fall Creek Falls. One year when I was in high school we had three guys from our group get seperated from us (this was during a three day trip). They ended up finding them 32 hours after the trip was supposed to be done. The whole Sparta community was great to us. They let all of us stay at the firehouse their and they brought us breakfast and everything. I think this was back in 1999. The whole town was great though.

I myself have been quite a few places here in the states, my favorite would be San Diego.
But have you guys ever heard of Vartaman Mississippi?. It is the Sweet Potato capitol of the world. Every year they have the Sweet Potato Festival and crown some young girl as the Sweet Potato Queen.
Also, some of you guys have probably heard of Paris TN, home of the Worlds Largest Fish Fry.

I have also been to Albania, Kosovo, Frankfurt Germany, the Azore's, Switzerland, and most recently Kuwait and Iraq.

When we came across Bear Tooth Pass, there were cars with Florida tags sitting everywhere and kids were playing in the snow.

We were there in July and you could see where they had to carve open a snow bank to get through! The bank was about 15-20 feet high on either side of the road. If I remember correctly, the pass is only open about 3 months out of the year.

Somewhere west of the past (we traveled from west to east) we hiked up onto a plateau. All kinds of alpine flowers and lakes. Looked like the "Sound of Music" scenes (without the obnoxious singing :p ). Truly stunning.

I swear I saw more diverse wildlife on that one drive than my whole 2 weeks in Montana (coyote, mountain goat, grizzly, eagle, moose, elk, marmot, etc.)

Oh yeah, that whole no speed limit thing is fun too... :p

I was in Montana when they had the whole no speed limit thing. The sign just said be reasonable and prudent with your speed. About 3 weeks after I drove through there, they put a speed limit back up....... Hope it wasn't my fault! :p

Yep, reasonable and prudent. I love it.

We were busting a@@ down a gravel road outside the Louis and Clark National something (Rec Area?) and saw a sign that said Cattle Crossing. We came around a bend and damn if there weren't two cows blocking the road. Almost made some hamburger but skidded to a stop just short. I was being neither reasonable nor prudent!

100 mph seemed both reasonable AND prudent to me. We got some bad gas mileage though.....

Anyone been to Sicily? I think I would like to go there.

We were going to make our way down there 2 summers ago, but the heat wave that went through France, killed like what 20,000, hit Rome the day we landed, it was 106, damned hottest vacation I have ever spent in my life, and it just got hotter, so we passed on going south and went north instead, but I do understand it is a place to go, we will be in Athens this summer, can't wait to see all of the cool relics from the past.

Tell us where you have been that most of us have probably NOT HEARD of AND there has to be something REALLY NEAT about that place (Town, county, etc.).

I mean, the name of the towner is actually Shorter.

Crazy enough?

Thanks guys, for resurrecting the old "Where have you been thread".

Started this one a while back but it is always interesting to see where people have been.

Good job!

Where have you been TO? Surreal, aren't you a teacher? SHAME on you. No wonder these kids are so screwed up.

Lots of new people have joined up, so let's try again now. Hey everybody, where have you been and what was so exciting about being there?

Well, I've been to about 8 states..The best being Rolla, Missouri. went there for a basketball tournament. Probably the most hillbilly place i've ever been to. There was a Steak n Shake beside our hotel and thats about it. Also, we asked if they had a mall..And dude said..Well we got a super walmart. it was pretty funny. Guess you had to be there.

not really best place...That'd probably have to be..Miami. Dont have to explain why :devilsmoke:

Most unusual place I have been is a tour of The USDB (US Disiplinary Barracks) in Ft. Leavenworth KS. Even got a tour of the Lethal Injection room.
