Probably biggest task for Barnes will be finding a new assistant coac.

It needs to be someone who can convince a young tall stud to follow him to TN

Q and JM are wild cards. Basillio was talking about JM last night he also said the coaches love him, he also said JM had that attitude in him too. Said Dickinson from Michigan was chirping all game and JM would chirp back at him, and after the stop right before half kinda got in his face. Said fans will love him.
Back on topic though: Those two are part of the ones who need to take a step forward, but after not playing much this year im not going to expect too much from them.

I wonder if Deboundje has a reliable ling range shot. He only took 10 and only 3 were 3s. He might could be the next JJJ. We hardly know him.

Mashack looks like he could be a slasher if he plays under control.

There will be a lot of pressure on ZZZ. I’d also like to see an experienced, solid PG added from the portal if a spot opens up. ZZZ arrived late summer. Our bigs will benefit from having a full year to work on catching his passes and adjusting to that speed. I think that that was one of the difficulties this year with scoring in the post. TN went from point guard by committee with Santi, JJJ, VBj, Keon, and Springer to the two quickest PGs TN has ever had. Bone was straight ahead blazing fast, but not as quick as those two. Some of that quickness is neutralized when the guys in the paint aren’t going to be able to capitalize on the opportunities that the quickness enables.

From when he was younger, Q shot 45& (9-20) from 3 in 2018 in 11 games from the French team he played on. The next season though he went 20% (15-73). He did go from averaging 4 points a game to 11 though. I cant find any stats from him at montverde so what he did there is a mystery.
The bigs are going to have to take a huge jump though with the loss of Chandler, if we still had him then the learning curve wouldnt be as bad, but honestly we need Grant type production from one of them and thats a lot to ask of these guys.

Olivier is the most likely candidate to produce like Grant. Despite some really bad takes that the team is better off without him. The same dolts are likely the same ones that were posting that JJJ is useless and Santi isn’t an SEC player.

Wouldn't say he sucks. He's got some skills and physically can hold up at the 4. Still not someone who can lead a team night in and night out like Grant did. As for JJJ, he does a lot of the little things to help a team, but he's not someone you can count on consistently for production. Tends to disappear at times. He's also not that type of fiery leader. Not a lot of dawg in him. As for Vescovi, they've got the book on him. When we face longer or more athletic teams that can put a guy in his face, they can take him out of the game. Gotta have other options we can turn to.

We need someone who can create off the dribble and finish above the rim. JM looks to be athletic enough for that, hopefully he can be that guy.

ORN had too many turnovers. But IMO some of that can be attributed to having to adjust to the much faster pace of the offense with KC and ZZZ on the court.

ORN looks like a strong player with a bit of finesse. If he developed a mean streak he could clean up on garbage baskets off of offensive rebounds.

He also wasnt a good passer out of the post either.

I know it’s likely FAR too early to look ahead. The sting from that loss may hurt worse than the Loyola Chicago loss. But we have to look ahead to another season. IMO! Our roster won’t change a whole lot as I don’t see many guys transferring. I think the name that has floated the most is Victor Bailey Jr. and as much as I’d hate to see him go, I think it would be in his best interest. Then you have Kennedy Chandler, who is gone to the draft no question. Fulkerson (love the kid and hope he goes the GA route) is gone as well. So IF Bailey leaves that would leave us two spots to fill after BJ Edwards takes KC spot. That leaves:
PG: Zakai
SG: Vescovi
SF: Josiah James
PF: Olivier
C: Plavsic

I think this is likely your starting 5 unless Barnes sees incredible improvements from Aidoo and BHH.

Bench:
BHH
Aidoo
Powell
Mashack
Q
BJ Edwards
?
?

My main question is what would everybody like to see us add to that roster to take us to that next step?
Also, what happens if guys like Vescovi and JJJ decide to leave? I mean, they feels like a set back of losing Admiral and Grant Williams. Though, I don’t think either will leave, it’s possible from what I’ve heard. Anyway, let’s talk 2022-2023.

Assuming Chandler leaves and no other starters leave, I think Powell and Bailey need to move on after the season. Barnes tried all season to get Powell and Bailey to fill a role for the team and neither could do it.

I think Barnes needs to add a pg/combo guard and a combo forward. The pg/ combo guard should be 6’0 to 6’3, quick and I would prefer them to have a scoring mindset. I think someone similar to Jordan Bone would be what I would look for. The combo forward should be 6’5-6’8, 215-240, strong, a decent rebounder, and I would prefer them to have a scorers mindset. Someone similar to Admiral Schofield would be what I would look for.

The reason I think Barnes needs to add a pg/combo guard is because of SV and ZZ’s limitations. As we saw in the first two rounds of the tournament, both teams were able to take SV and ZZ out of the game. Longwood was just posting ZZ up until we had to take him out and Michigan just stuck to SV and crowded him and dared him to beat them with quickness. SV isn’t going to get much quicker and ZZ isn’t likely to grow this summer, so we have to get another player who can help when teams try to take advantage of ZZ and SV. I know we have BJE coming in, but it would be nice to have someone else to help him since he will be a freshman.

The reason I think Barnes needs to add a combo forward is the versatility it will give the team. If Barnes finds a good combo he can move JJJ to the two if he wants to go big. If the combo is in the 6-7 to 6-8 range you could have them play as a small ball center.

Losing JJJ, KC, and SV.... That would suck a lot.

We lose all three then we're looking at '23-'24 as the earliest we could really be competitive again. That's just too much to lose to be able to make up for. Really hope JJJ and SV come back with a chip on their shoulders.

I am a huge fan of Santiago. He was our MVP for the season. Having said that, I don’t see him going anywhere. Where would he go? He is a great player for UT but I don’t see him playing in the NBA.
