Probably biggest task for Barnes will be finding a new assistant coac.

It needs to be someone who can convince a young tall stud to follow him to TN

That’s an advantage of having a grizzled old coach. He has a lot of options. If a young, unestablished up and comer were in charge it would be a huge challenge attracting and keeping great assistants. Barnes also has the ability to be loved and respected by his players that are less than a third his age. He’s building a program that should continue to thrive after he retires instead of being distracted by moving his career forward. TN is close to being a destination job instead of a stepping stone.

I am a huge fan of Santiago. He was our MVP for the season. Having said that, I don’t see him going anywhere. Where would he go? He is a great player for UT but I don’t see him playing in the NBA.

Possible he could go overseas and make money while developing further. Not sure how much more he can really improve, that's a reason he might decide to see where he can make a living playing ball.

I'd like to believe he can try to raise his stock as an NBA role player, a combo guard who can fill it up by staying one more year. As it is, hard to see him getting drafted.

Where is JJJ going? Europe cause he won’t get drafted.

He's a tough one. He has an NBA body and size, but his lack of consistency and injury history would be red flags. I really do see him returning to take care of unfinished business as well as another year to work on his game.

I think that there’s a good chance that SV stays. I think that the odds of both playing through the 2023-24 year are near zero even though they would be eligible.
I still think if they can put together a decent NIL package Chandler considers coming back. I know we have Spyre are they working with basketball at all or just football?

Agreed, he could make money overseas. Wasn’t there some kind of NIL problem for international players? We would love to keep him and maybe NIL money would help.

Yet he has 3 Elite 8s, a Final Four, and just one fewer Sweet 16 than TN has as a program. Go away troll.

Over 3 decades of underperformance in the NCAAT. I’m no troll and I will never go away. And it took Barnes over three decades to accomplish that. Lol. Barnes isn’t very good in the NCAAT - even he acknowledges that. He calls it an oddity.

Link where he’s acknowledged he isn’t very good in all of his NCAATs?

Which blue blood program has Barnes ever run that has the added benefit of favorable seeding, matchups, and whistles. Sometimes Duke and UNC don’t even have to leave their state.

Step #1 is for Chandler to be in class this week. But I think that the odds of KC returning in 2022-23 are 1:100 or worse.

Google it or search twitter. Quote from Barnes about his NCAAT record. Barnes called it an “oddity”.

But truth is he underperforms in the NCAAT and has done so for decades.

Chandler will at least go through the combo and see where he will probably fall in the draft before making a decision. As it stands, he may have played himself into the first round the last few weeks. The money and security that comes with being an NBA 1st rounder will be a hard thing to turn down.

Where exactly will JJJ go? I didn’t mention Vesco.
I mentioned SV, I mentioned him with JJJ bc they are in the same boat. Just stop playing dumb, you’re either going to embarrass yourself or show how uneducated you are on the subject.

Whatever mr know it all. JJJ isn’t going anywhere. And you still haven’t said where he is going. Vesco is a different deal altogether. Pons two-way contract is half a million. But JJJ and Vesco aren’t in the same boat at all because JJJ can get NIL money. JJJ can only improve his draft stock by improving on his game. Another year in the SEC and if he can be dominant then he will get more than half a mill.

I think ZZ may start the season at PG but Edwards will play as much if not more by mid season.

Teams that gave us trouble this year and led to losses were long and athletic teams that could guard. We need a real low post that can score that prevents the defense from playing so aggressive on the perimeter. And we need 1 or 2 more players that can create their own shot even when guarded. Vescovi can be a spot up shooter but struggles if trying to create his own room/shot. JJJ better at this and add a wing similar to JJJ with a true post threat. Then maybe we have a better shot at deep run in the tourney.

That’s what is so difficult for non-blue bloods to consistently win in college ball. Very few teams can assemble a roster capable of adapting to any opponent.

TN would have been in a much better place had that talk by the rulers a few years ago of freedom of movement by offensive players been real. Instead TN has a largely finesse team that gets assaulted on a regular basis while refs swallow their whistles. TN blows out Michigan yesterday if the refs would have been calling fouls when teams fouled.

Minutes at PG? I’ll take that bet.

They may play together like ZZ and KC did but Tennessee will need Edwards to play a lot. Down the stretch, teams schemed ZZ a lot more & he struggled some due to his size. Next yr if he’s a starter, you’ll see a completely different approach from opponents defending & attacking him.
