Next year any better?

I will probably get burned at the stake for this but Worley isn't a difference maker at QB. I think by next year Dobbs, Peterman or possibly even Dormandy will be adequate replacements. Losing AJ will hurt but we are building good depth at linebacker and other players will step up and lead on that side of the ball. Both lines will be better next year with more depth. Hopefully with Hurd having a year experience in the system and Scott ready to ball out we will be improved there as well. Secondary and receiver is in good shape and getting better. If Dormandy develops into an elite quarterback we will be competitive with anyone by 2016.

Do NOT overlook Juan Jennings. He may not have the arm that Dormady has, but has the kind of speed and athleticism needed to run this read option offense. Imagine next year with Hurd, Scott, Paul, Reid, and Kamara as RB's and add Jenning's speed at QB and our stud WR's and TE's. We will be much more formidable on offense next year!

As for how long it's going to take to get good again, take a look at South Carolina and how Spurrier has built that program. I believe we are on a similar path but may get there even quicker because CBJ is recruiting much better than Spurrier did when he first got there.

i have always thought 8-4 in 2015. the schedule shifts in our favor - Hurd, the young receivers, young guys on defense have another year under their belts, another group of great recruits coming in - i will be surprised if we are not at least 8-4.

Sutton will step up as the leader next year. Sutton is already outstanding, and I can only imagine what he will be like next year.

I can only see us getting better next year. We are bringing in some great recruits on the DL (Come on Tuttle...I know you wanna).

Overall, the outlook is bright. It just takes time to restock a depleted roster. As long as Butch continues to recruit like he has I expect us to be ready to go by next year (with youth) and the year after with experience and a real shot for Butch to show what he's got.

Majors inherited a much worse team, much worse.

He inherited a bad team, but I can not say it was worse than the team Jones did. Both had to start from ground zero and it did take Majors 6-8 years to turn it around. Also, Majors did not have to face the SEC with all the outstanding coaches currently in the SEC. Also, the scholarship limits were not as restrictive as they are now. Jone's task is much more difficult than the one Majors faced. I am and will be satisfied with steady progress in the won loss record and we have QBs who can compete for Championships

I'm not saying this year is over or anything like that, but I see a lot of people saying next year we will be better. Will we really? I know more recruits more depth, more speed, more time in the system etc. My thoughts are we are losing our starting quarterback on offense in Worley as well as our quarterback on defense in AJ Johnson. How do we handle losing that much leadership and take a step forward? I know I'll probably get negavol'd and my house and tailgating trailer burned down but I think next year will be much like this year at best. 2016 will be our year. That is all. Thoughts?

Live for the moment and quit wishing your life away. Who knows, we could upset a few teams this year. I would love nothing more than to knock out UGA or Bama and kill their playoff hopes.

We lose the following in 2014

Coleman DB- We will upgrade
Johnson LM- Hard to replace
Lane RB- Replacement in place
Worley QB- Hard to replace
D Young-KO-We will upgrade

Also got to remember this class 2015 will bring in yet more speed vs the departing overall JR and Sr classes..

Good times ahead!

Ya I guess I didn't quite think about it like that. Worley is solid this year so far, but he isn't much of a play maker I guess. Hopefully we will continue to improve.

Considering he had the ASU players in his grill the entire game, I would say he made some nice plays.

I must have missed something.

Has Tennessee lost this year yet?

Come on 99 keep up. We can't do nothin this year cause that sorry ass, no good, noodle armed, non playmaking Worley is our QB. Everybody knows he can barely walk and chew gum. How you gonna win with him back there? Best to just move on and look forward to Peterman, Dobbs, a freshman or 2.... hell, anybody but Worley.

I think 8-4 is a possibility in 2015. From what I've seen of the schedule I think they lose to Oklahoma,Georgia,Alabama and Missouri. An 8-4 record in 2015 probably equals a trip to the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl or Gator Bowl.

Isnt the Peach bowl one of the playoff bowls ? I thought I saw that somewhere since it isnt on NYE this season

Folks, just because you have a thought, it doesn't mean you have to start a thread. You can keep your bemusement and wondering to yourself and no one would be sad about it.

One of the Berry twins can easily replace Young - even this season - had Von Pearson not gotten hurt I think he may have went pro - he reminds me so much of CP

I prefer see what happens this weekend and the rest of this season before we start talking about 2015. But since we're talking about the subject, I absolutely believe we take a step forward next year. With the exception of the two examples that you cite above, we will have most of our talent back, and we will have another strong recruiting class on top of that. Losing a QB and breaking in a new QB does not doom teams to failure. We won a national championship with a new QB with very little actual game experience in 1998, and we are not the only team to do so. Auburn also won a national title with a new QB in 2010, and nearly did so last season. Texas A & M looks like it is going to have back to back successful seasons with new QB's taking the helm. Whoever our QB winds up being is going to have a very talented supporting class, and an experienced O-line that has had an extra year of strength and conditioning. Many QB's are capable of success with such a supporting cast. I disagree with those who say 2015 will be just another rebuilding season; I think it will likely be our break out season (if we don't shock the world and have our break out season this year). Besides with your logic, we will never have a break out season. After all, every year, we are going to lose talented players. For example, I could argue that 2016 will also be a rebuilding year because Von Pearson won't be here, and several other of our top receivers including Marquez North will also not be here because they will be going pro early. How could we possibly succeed in 2016 after losing all of that talent at wide receiver? The answer of course is that you get to the point where you are reloading every year rather than rebuilding. I think we reach that point next year because we don't lose that much talent next year, and we will be returning a lot of talent with a year or more worth of experience under their belts. Go Vols!

They're just a regular mid level Bowl game this season and next season as far as I know.

We bought to blow the lid of this sucker with a difference maker like that.

I can see Khalil having a Clowney affect on UT's defense making everyone around him better. He's a special talent.

What's the possibility Maggit moves to MLB next season to replace AJ? Maggit's leadership has been repeatedly mentioned by the coaches.

Hopefully with another year the O-line will be improved. Can't make chicken salad out of chicken shat though. Guess we'll see how they develop this season before we know what the ceiling is for the current O-linemen.

Talent wise we'll be much better. Looks to be two of the top DTs in the nation coming in with that class with Preston Williams at WR also who is probably immediately going to push for time. We have a lot of young guys getting snaps right now that aren't going to get worse with experience. You always worry about leadership but someone will fill that role when AJ leaves; a lot of these kids are very mature and advanced for their age, I have no doubt someone will step up with guys like Hurd, Berry Brothers, Sutton, Kelly Jr, etc.

QB is a question but I think Dobbs and Peterman will be much, much better by then.

Maybe a 4-5 star quarterback or two will sign with UT in 2016 hopefully.
