Next Year Compared to This Year

That seems a tad unrealistic, no?

I don't know. That's beyond my ability to predict.

Until then, UT will be dependent on out of state talent to compete at the highest levels. To continually get those players, UT must have a HC that is both an elite recruiter and elite coach.

Not any more unrealistic than his demand that if the coaches didn't win at least 7 games this year, it meant they sucked.

Are you stupid or lying? I can't really think of any other explanation for why you would claim I said much less "demanded" that.

I did NOT say that. I would repeat what I've said... but you'd just ignore or lie about that too.

but isn't that true ? won't UT be seriously in trouble with depth all across the board ? we both know that a pile of freshmen won't cut it in the SEC,of course CBJ is trying to get a lot of help from the JUCO ranks
Yes. I have said elsewhere that this "reason" will be more valid than the excuses that were tossed around this year.

I've also said that as we sit and look at next fall right now... a six win coaching performance will IMO be equivalent to 7 this past year. IOW's, I would take it as an indication that the staff will be able to get it done in the future. Right now I see only 4 or 5 games that I feel real comfortable calling wins. IMO it will take a much better job of coaching and a great year of player development to win more than 5.

i don't think we will know how good or bad CBJ is,till he has some quality depth, which usually means being able to red shirt a bunch of freshmen, which is going to take years to get there,i do expect some turn over from his assistants to get to where he wants to be at also
I disagree with that. It may be true that it will take that to start playing for championships. It should not take that to start winning 7-9 games a year. Saban's roster wasn't that far ahead of where Jones started. He made noise in his second year. Jones has had and will have more talent than Franklin who could win 9 for the second straight year.

i don't see no quick turnarounds for CBJ and company,it is going to take hard work, for the staff and players, time will tell,as for next year, there is no telling right now as to how good or bad they will be,according to who they get recruiting wise or not,no telling till Signing Day as to what will happen and what spring practice brings

I will be safe and say 6 wins for next year

Define "quick". I know people don't like to hear it but neither fans nor recruits have much stomach for long runways. They want to see early and tangible indications that things are getting better. Words and promises wear thin very quick.

I think 5 wins based on what we know right now would be a "good" coaching performance. Not "great" which is what UT needs... but "good".

But there are many who will turn on him if he coaches the Vols to another losing season. That would likely put him on a "hot seat" for '15. A UT coach getting that kind of negative attention will struggle to recruit out of state talent. By the the promises of "we're turning things around" will be hard to sell to recruits if there are no results.

It is tough. It isn't a great situation. But if you think it through, I think you'll agree that what I'm saying is the most likely scenario.

My sincere hope is that Jones surprises pretty much everyone and wins 7-9 games next fall.

I agree, will the fans wait this long? :hi: :peace2:

Not likely.

I will this pretty ironclad prediction. There are people here who will turn on Jones if he turns in another season like this one next year. The reasons for doing so will be much more valid... but they're driven by emotion and blind faith now. If their hopes are disappointed then they'll blame him.

This isn't the first time we've been through it here. I've watched it twice on this board since 2005.

Many of these posters lack "courage" so if Jones fails to give them what they expect they'll change their screen names to avoid the concrete predictions of success they're making now. A VERY few may admit they are wrong... but not many.
