NFL owners considering adding resolution to improve teams draft position if they hire a minority coach/GM.

People need something to be outraged over.
Why would fans of the NFL not be pissed? My favorite team has an African American coach that I feel has done a good job.... I feel that Eric Bienemy should be getting a shot at being a head coach soon. It upsets me that they would force teams to hire a minority coach by giving them a competitive advantage against the rest of the league.

So how does this work, they get 5+ draft positions? In the first year of the hire or every year? How about if they are gay, 5+ more places, female 5 more?
How about if I identify as black, gay or female?
Obviously they’ve done some marketing and realize this will add more spending fans than it will lose

This proposal is ridiculous. If you hire a black head coach and a black GM you can move up 16 spots in the draft in one year. I’m sure this was never intended to be serious, but more of a promise made to go public to bring more publicity to the lack of minorities in executive positions. I’m trying to remember a black head coach that was let go of recently that was treated unfairly and I can’t think of one. Marvin Lewis kept his job for how long and never won a playoff game? Was it 16 years? Mike Tomlin is lucky that he’s part of the organization that’s had like 3 coaches in 50 years or else he probably could’ve been gone by now. I’m sure there are some, but I’d be scared to death to fire a black coach right now that went 7-9 or 8-8 if I were a Governor (Wrong sport) I mean owner.

Bill Belichick will turn out to be related to Elizabeth Warren. Patriots will get 1st pick and take Trevor Lawrence.
No need. Bill is HC/GM.

All he needs to do is hire Jeffrey from Fresh Prince of Bel Aire as his "General Manager". As in the manager of his morning coffee and dry cleaning.

I thought this was stupid when I first heard it, now it just cracks me up. The NFL actually wants token black coaches roaming the sidelines, and thinks that spectacle will be good for black coaches and minorities. Man this country is losing it.

This rule should state you have to sign a white defensive back with your improved draft position.

What if a team hires a gay African American female with multiple personality disorder who identities as Hispanic/Asian/Pacific Islander/Native American/Martian and Eggplant, would they receive the number 1 thru15th selections in the next draft?

That's where this is heading. Mental illness.

What if you scout a 6’0” 190lb minority QB who is a great runner, but not an effective passer as only as a QB and make no mention of moving him to wide receiver? Do you move up 3 draft picks? Or if you draft a minority QB and move him to wide out do you lose a 2nd, 4th and 6th round pick?

Not if he/she still identifies as a QB

Attacking this by affecting the competitive balance is nuts. If they really want to look like they're doing something about this then they ought to have an incentive like the league will pay 50% of his salary for a certain period of time or something along those lines

I’m not implying that it be 50/50. That’s never going to happen nor would it be necessary. The problem is that white coaches seem to get the benefit of the doubt far more than black coaches. The league continually hires retreads that have failed at every stop they’ve had instead of trying something new.
There certainly wasn’t anything racist about firing Hue Jackson. 3-36 gets you fired regardless of your skin color. In fact, most coaches would be fired long before 39 games. I’m not saying he was kept due to race but no can say he was let go due to his race.

I really don’t think this country is as racist as some want it to be. I’m not saying there aren’t racist people, but there always will be. Right now this constant brow beating of manufactured racism is creating a lot more divisiveness in our culture than doing anything to help.

Here. I’ll save you time. There are about 42M black people in the US and about 239M white people. That’s 1 black person for every 5.69 white people. 6 black GMs compared to 26 white is 1:4.33. Tell me again how there is a problem. If anything, they need to level the playing field so there are more white GMs hired. You forgot this little thing called CONTEXT.

I didn’t realize that your jimmies were rustled so much by trying to even the playing field for minorities.

Dude this ain't evening the playing field. The best coaches/GM's will get hired. They are all trying to win. To start implementing favoritism rules based on hiring practices in competitive sports is unfair and ridiculous. it is worth changing the channel and not spending a dime on it. We have seen more political correctness in professional sports and it is getting ridiculous. The next move is being forced to hire women on the coaching staff. Adding female players on the team. Let the cream rise to the top. More minorities will become coaches and GMs organically like more minorities became starting QBs. It's about winning.

To Tomlin's credit he has been very successful. Bad example. Antonio's Brown makes anyone look back and now the Steelers can get back to business as usual. It's the stability that has made them successful over time.
