Nichols visit starts tonight...

Just for full disclosure, Papa Nichols also had this to say...

"Last weekend saw the red carpet unfold for Austin Nichols at Memphis Madness. Fans chanted his name. Mark Nichols described the visit "good," but quickly added, 'He's not into all that, really. He appreciated it, don't get me wrong, it makes anybody feel honored or happy, but he's not really into all the hoopla."

Just go ahead and admit it Mark, you want Austin to be a Dookie.

Ouch. Sounds like Papa Nichols may not be touting UT as much as once belived.

"I don't know if that would be a good fit for him, you know because Tennessee has a grind-out style type of play and I think a more open offense would be more conducive to Austin now," Mark Nichols said.

"I'm not saying it wouldn't work, but I'm saying I just think he would fit better other places. If he chooses Tennessee, I'll be happy for him and we'll go on with it. It'll be up to Cuonzo to get the best out of him. Hopefully he'd have a system that works for him."

It's funny because most Memphians said dad was pushing him there and was a big reason for the interest.

Quinn had some good points in his live blog though about this misconception with UT having a grind it out offense...was actually 6th in SEC scoring last year, and that was with about half the motion offense implemented. Also while at MSU, his teams often led the conference in scoring or were right up there....

Austin played in a 4-1 offense at briarcrest...coincidently Martin has been saying UT will run a lot of that as well this year...Nichols coach seems to think He'd fit great in UT offense.

And yes, papa Nichols definitely makes it sound like he really like dukes style...

Why would you want to send Austin to Duke? Their big men don't get the ball.

History of getting them in the league...

All 3 plumlees will, Kelly will and the big goobers before them as well.

And that isn't based on anything they've done. Austin is 6'9/215. Plumlees' are 6'11/240.

Kelly is not going to the league IMO.

Kyle Singler that's who I was missing...I've heard scouts for Duke and Nichols dad say that K has compared Austin to a Singler. Similar size and style....

That's my point, perception in Memphis and nationally is UT got Stokes solely because Memphis didn't have room.

I've said, if Memphis had a scholarship for Stokes, then I agree stokes is the bigger pull.

But when is the last time a 5* recruit legitimately picked UT over Memphis with all things being equal?

It doesn't just speak about Memphis recruiting, but duke/unc as well...typically private school kids leave Memphis...maybe Nichols sets a new precedent an shows some private school kids a new option.

I was speaking more to the perception that Tennessee can't break down the wall in Memphis. Stokes, being a public school kid, will have more effect on drawing more public school kids to UT than Nichols since most private school kids leave the city anyhow.

We are making two different points.

I see what you mean about Tennessee beating Memphis for someone Memphis wanted, but my point is more about which recruit (Stokes or Nichols) helps open more in-roads to city kids who have been shooting us down for decades.

K is lying to them because Austin is a back to the basket 4.

Very true. I may have worded what I meant wrong in the OP.

BTO --- don't lie to your faithful;

What exactly do you mean by this? You include this religious cult type reference in almost every post. Is there something your trying to say or is it just more of your obvious trolling and thus has no real meaning at all.

Sometime, and when he does, he won't be a private school kid. What's your point?

The point being, you are misleading those who don't know otherwise by claiming something to be true, which in fact, isn't.

It doesn't take a law degree to see how that is wrong.

Lastly, your defensive tone certainly suggests that you know you're misleading people to further prove your point.

I wasn't trying to be combative by questioning you. You just made a statement that conflicted with what I was aware of, and I wanted clarification. You respond with, "Sometime, and when he does, he won't be a private school kid.". That hardly sounds definitive and certainly is contrary to your original assertion that Skal is already attending public school, which you have yet to convince anyone of with any level of certainty.

It is completely obvious when rightly understood that Austin is a bigger deal coming to UT than Jarnell...it seems silly to me one couldnt understand that...been following recruiting in this area for years...Bleed you RIGHT ON POINT and I COMPLETELY understand it...now the ones that don't...well obviously they have a vested interest for that statement NOT TO BE TRUE!!!

is this a thread about Nichol's visit or who's the bigger fish? Cause I don't care whose the bigger fish, they're both really good. I'm just concerned about the visit and don't won't to read thru 4 pages of useless bull

The guy is transferring to a public school. He obviously wants to be in a public school, which is why I referred to him as a public school kid. I don't see what you're getting at.

Are you claiming he is not transferring?

He's saying he's not currently a public school kid, something you implied he was.

No. I don't know if he is transferring or not. That's why I asked, because to the best of my knowledge, he attends a private school. You originally claimed that he was a public school kid, as if he already was and had been.* When I asked, you backed off by saying he was "GOING to transfer to Olive Branch, Southwind, or something." That hardly sounds definitive, and I believe it was misleading to call him a public school kid as part of your argument, when he is in fact, not. That is what I'm getting at.

If you say he's going to transfer, I'll buy that. Like I said, I don't know. Most people on here won't know either. I think it's irresponsible to speak as if he already had just because it strengthens your point of view.

Jesus. He is transferring to a public school.

There.

Not hardly...

Memphis media has tabbed him one of the 5 most important recruits in Memphis history, stokes didn't get that label.

Memphis has room for Nichols, they didn't for stokes...and almost all Memphis fans say that's the only reason we got stokes.

I can assure you, if we get Nichols its a bigger statement in Memphis than getting stokes.

Stokes was definitely the bigger prospect because you want to talk about tabbing prospects how about Jarnell's nickname in memphis is the "king of memphis".
